I was in the steppe today, and I took this picture smile.gif
We were already quite warm, up to +16C, but I couldn't find polistov yet.

Cool cool.gif smile.gifIsn't this nest by any chance Polistes nimpha?

I don't know how kpo nests determine the species, I don't know much about the taxonomy of polistov at all wink.gif
Yesterday I was in the steppe, and I found such an amazing polistov nest - it is at least 25 cm in diameter! It was located on the slope of a ravine on the rhizome of some plant, and what is most interesting - on the reverse side of this nest sat a female smile.gifSeveral more females were climbing on the ledges of the slabs in the ravine, I don't know if this is the female that was sitting from that nest, or not, but I took her with me. Today I set up a terrarium for her approximately on the principle that in video files, only instead of glued cardboard boxes I put an inverted flower pot. At the bottom I put a well-fed honey pot, food for aquarium fish, a drinking bowl with clean water and a piece of bark. I launched the uterus there, and it began to get used to it!!! Does not hit the glass, flies on the terrarium, drank honey syrup, even climbed into a flower pot! The most real steppe relict ravine polist smile.gifProbably rolistes dominulus ravine)
So vespa crabro, go for the wasp! ))))

vespa crabro, well, a little more, and you will already be warmer, or rather it is already getting warmer, today you had approx. 14C it seems! And from 5 to 9 can be up to +17C. So you can already try to search smile.gif
But I haven't seen bumblebee queens, especially ground or garden ones. In general, last Friday I saw as many as three pages during a sortie )

Today we finally ended the drought, it started raining quite well, the temperature is not higher than +7C. My wasp this morning went down to the drinkers, drank honey satiety, and sits in a corner. It can be seen that it is overcast, and sits out.

vespa crabro, and how will the place where the wasps will build the expected nest be arranged in the terrarium?

Here are the underground nests of common and German wasps.

05.04.2011 21:27, vespa crabro

I will keep them in different ways, this year I will keep Polistes, and next year there may be ground Vespula vulgaris,Vespula germanica. That is, by levels starting from easy to hard! And I will change everything in the terrarium for each type of wasp! smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif
