Who needs a Vietnamese beetle in St. Petersburg?

Community and ForumInsects breedingWho needs a Vietnamese beetle in St. Petersburg?

Got to me as a maggot in dried fruit . The host said the fruit was from Vietnam. I left the maggot alone, wrapping the fructina in a napkin. A few days ago, I turned around to look and saw a bug already . The bug is small, about 3-4 mm . The build is similar to elephants, and the head is like a hammerhead fish smile.gif. (Sorry, I'm not an entomologist .) Sitting in a glass jar . I don't know what to do with it . I only spray water on the walls of the jar sometimes .
Add it to your collection !!! After all, it will still die .

And, nevertheless, they answered you absolutely for sure - this is some kind of false layer (the Familytribidae). It is unlikely that anyone will determine its appearance from such a photo, and even from the Vietnamese fauna.

Exechesops of some kind (what used to be called Zygaenodes), it's their head that happens: http://web05.affrc.go.jp/labs/kanko/246-4.pdf here, for example, is a similar thing: http://tyurin.exblog.jp/d2013-09-02/
With the view, you can also try, but it will not be easy) by the way, what kind of fruit?
P.S. and I would not refuse a bug )

No, they are all small-leucopis 3.5-5.5 mm in length. And the family is rather big (http://sv.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exechesops - not all the species are here yet), and all its representatives, in principle, are similar.

And what do adults eat ? Maybe I should give him some weed and vegetables .
And how long can he live in the bank ?

03.10.2014 10:33, Angur

It sits so sadly on the underside of the lid that I closed the jar with . Maybe he's breathing through a crack ?

It's unlikely to last long. Maybe there will be some branches or young shoots, but most likely from the plant on which this "dried fruit" grew.

Thank you all for your attention .
The beetle arrived at the ALL-RUSSIAN PLANT QUARANTINE CENTER (VNIIKR),
Moscow Region, and will serve the science and biological safety of our Homeland .
