A dragonfly

Community and ForumInsects biology and faunisticsA dragonfly

Nadys in to the topic " Who is this?" I threw a photo of a dragonfly taken (not by me!) somewhere in the United States (not Mexicosmile.gif). Unfortunately, the species identity of the dragonfly has not been established. frown.gif Having searched the Internet myself, I came to the conclusion that it looks like this is a pretty girl ( Calopteryx virgo). But can it be in the US? We have such people in Karelia (I saw them myself in practice on the PTA after the first year). Unfortunately, I did not find a map of the distribution of the species on Earth. At best, there are distribution maps for individual countries (Ireland, Bulgaria). In order not to be offtopic in the topic by definition, I started a new one. So, the questions are:

1) Is there a pretty girl in the United States?
2) As far as I found on the Internet, there are not very many types of beauties at all. What species live in the United States?

What about hotties, I haven't heard about their distribution in the United States. As far as I remember, various Calopteryx species are more common in the Russian Far East and in Asian countries. C. virgo is distributed in Europe, Russia, Asia Minor, and North Africa.

Well, thanks to the only one who responded smile.gif
Small Internet research has led to the following results. There are really few types of beauties. By <url> no more than four. Apparently this is in Russia.

Calopteryx virgo, as indicated in many sources, is a Palearctic species. It can't be found in the United States. In North America, there are five species of the genus Calopteryx, although I found information only on three: C. maculata, C. aeqabilis, C. dimidiata. The wing is completely painted only in the first species. So it looks like he's the one in the picture.
