What butterflies can you see in the coming week

I think it's time to crawl out into the field, or is it too early?.. Maybe someone has already been out or knows from experience who you can meet in the next week? Previously, I did not go to the Moscow region before the end of April or the beginning of May...

You can certainly find something like Archiearis parthenias. Unlikely, though. Still a bit chilly, I think in the field somewhere by the middle, end of April. Now it is better to catch in the light and then if the temperature is higher than + 1, scoops can fly in.

Quite, but it still comes across very rarely. Although Tyomochkin recently found such a moth. Photo in the topic Definition of butterflies. By the way, on Friday I saw Nymphalis vau-album jump.gifmost likely overwintered, it was in the Noginsky district. But now all this is rare, it is better to wait until the end of April or the beginning of May. smile.gif

Again I flew with the registrationshuffle.gif, Ilya, have you tried to catch the light yet?

30.03.2008 9:31, Ilia Ustiantcev

Yes, I have a regular lamp, a table lamp, it doesn't fly very much when there are not enough butterflies: in the fall, the summer ended in mid-September. There is also a good lantern that throws its light on the white wall - there were moth-flies there, and until the end of October; but even there I did not meet anyone!

Ilya, try to go to a clearing with a power line and a small river.
Relative to the Razdory platform - 15-20 minutes in the direction of Romashkovo along the sandy road along the ZHD

Ilya, what kind of lamp do you have in your desk lamp?

I am 90% sure that in the coming weekend you can catch about 10-15 species of moths on the lamp, of which the most beautiful is the fluffy cocoonworm.

I am 90% sure that a fluffy cocoonworm will not want to fly to the light.

So there's a 10 percent chance to catch it?

03.04.2008 21:35, Grigory Grigoryev

I doubt it, however, and on the account of 10% ........

WHAT ARE YOU GUYS TALKING ABOUT? About once every two years, when I go to the country at the turn of March-April, I catch fluffy ones in the light. And not every year, so year after year is not necessary, and I have the impression that they have a short period of summer, plus sometimes the weather is not flying. So catch it and don't hesitate. I also attach a photo of Odontosia sieversi with which I usually catch furry ones in pairs.

to sdi: Wow! Do you have any dates?"

04.04.2008 14:45, AntSkr

And how many of these cocoonworms fly into the world? How many copies each? Do the females fly?

06.04.2008 23:10, AntSkr

And if it's not a secret, where exactly did you catch them?

07.04.2008 7:25, Sergey Didenko

I apologize for the delay in answering, I was at my father's dacha. So
1-The last time I caught 09.04.2005, it turns out two years, and with this I have not caught three in a row, although in 2006 I did not go to the dacha in the early spring.
2 – Of the three main places where I catch furry fly only in O-Zuevsky district, Neftyanik settlement.
3 - This year it was necessary to catch about two weeks ago, because when I caught them, there was always 10-30 cm of snow, and judging by the contingent of butterflies that flew at my father's dacha, there are 8 species of moth alone (I will put a full report on fishing as soon as I can, in the topic " Season hunting in the Moscow region has begun")... in general, it's already late.
4-They usually fly in half an hour or an hour after sunset, fall under a lamp on the snow and crawl, flapping their wings, without even trying to take off.
5-I didn't catch any females, with a maximum of 4 males arriving per night.

too bad it's so early. There is no possibility to catch in the snow, however, I stay in the country for a long time in this weather, I will come and go. We'll have to look for caterpillars. And at what temperature did you catch them?

And does Odontosia sieversi fly just as early? She usually flies from mid-April, doesn't she?

My latest Odontosia sieversi is dated April 19. And they were caught when at least in some places on the site there was still snow. And since this year is very early, most likely they have already left. Although my trips to the country usually fall on the first two weeks of April, and then a pause until the May holidays, so maybe they fly later, I do not know. Then again, it probably depends on the area and area where you catch it. I can speak more or less confidently only about the O-Zuev marshes.

Odontosia sieversi was found in Zolotovo near Moscow on May 1. True, I didn't take a copy, because I collect beetles, and I wasn't familiar with Frost yet. I was sitting on a spruce trunk. And next to it grew a line. smile.gif
