When do P. apollo and P. mnemosyne pupae and caterpillars appear?

Hello! Can you tell me when the pupae and caterpillars of Apollo and mnemosyne appear — in spring or late summer? It is necessary not for collection, but for accounting in a protected natural area. We have forage plants, probably ochitok and khokhlatka. The southern slopes are already thawed, yesterday I looked at the ochitki, found nothing-no masonry, no pupae.

Look for mnemosyne's caterpillars on the leaf below, as I do every spring.Carefully turn it over and look, and it's faster to chew on it.

Thank you for your answers! What about Apollo? What is going to appear on ochitki now? Tracks?Or are they in pupae until July, and then the adults fly out, and the caterpillars feed in August?Yesterday I again searched all the cleanings, examined the rock formations for pupae-nothing,

Parnassius apollo L. they are now in the egg or tiny caterpillar phase , which is how they survive the winter. So, it is not very easy to detect them now on forage plants (due to their small size), especially since the female usually lays eggs in only a few pieces or even one at a time in one place (usually on a forage plant). It is easier to detect caterpillars when they grow up, i.e. at an older age, and this happens closer to the time of imago summer (butterflies fly in different places at different times, in the period from June to August; depending on the location, altitude, weather conditions). The pupal stage lasts 10-15 days, respectively, you can roughly estimate when they are in your area, based on the typical timing of summer. Pupae are open (without a cocoon), just lie on the ground in a small cradle of leaves, blades of grass, etc., between rocks (and sometimes openly), more often, right next to the food plant (in my experience). Thus, it is necessary to look for preimaginal stages of Apollo at the right time and, moreover, in those places where butterflies were observed last year. If you focus only on cleaning, which is present in many places, then the probability of finding caterpillars and pupae will be close to zero. Both caterpillars and butterflies are sun-and heat-loving; active in appropriate weather, during the day.(unlike mnemosyne, in which hus. apparently can feed at night). In general, the Apollons start flying about a month later than Mnemosyne. You can read about how Apollo sometimes occurs in a recent post in the topic "Collecting insects in series.."

Thank you for the detailed information! I know the places of summer of imago and the time, since we have been keeping records of butterflies for several years, and no one has ever seen caterpillars and pupae, so I will look for them.
