On this site met last year the beetle malashka Semijulistus callosus.
I would very much like to know what kind of distribution this beetle has. What
the larva feeds on, in general, the way of life. Thanks!

Thanks for the comments on Bug Lover. I would still like to comment on my favorite beetle!

I join the question of the Amateur Beetle... I occasionally caught Semijulistus callosus on flowers in Yaroslavl, in the private sector and in the village on the north.in the west of the Yar region. I've never been in a natural landscape before. In Yakovlev's work on the beetles of the Yar. O., he comes as an invader from the south-east...

Thank you very much, Elizar! I represent Finnish coleopterals. In
2008, an unknown beetle was discovered in a window strap in eastern Finland. It turned out that he was a guest from Russia. Semijulistus callosus. We
know our fauna well from beetles. that's why a new look is always a small
sensation. This beetle is not on our list, where there are about 3,700 species of beetles.
We do not have any data on Semijulistus callosus. Therefore, even small
data about this species is very valuable to us. Thanks!

We need to quickly create a bunch of accounts for your nickname in different versions, and then damn ponaregitsya here pack lol.gif

Probably you can create a Bug of accounts without end?! For example: Zhuk-olen, Zhuk-nosorog, Maiskiy zhuk... And you can come up with a lot of things: Zhuk-enthusiast, Zhuk guide, Zhukovod (?), Zhukist (?), Zhuk deyatel...

is there a picture of Callosus?"

There is no photo, there is an image in "Jacobson" - http://www.zin.ru/animalia/coleoptera/rus/jacobs42.htm

I'm trying to send a snapshot to this site. In general, the larvae of Small fry live in rotten wood and are predators. Beetles are often found on flowers, and Elizar has encountered Callosus. In the Finnish fauna, 10 species of small fry have been found, and all their larvae behave in the same way. It is likely that callosus
also lives there, but this is not a scientific fact. The most common type we have is Dasytes niger, which you can easily find on flowers in the summer.

I may have met Callosus, but I can't say for sure. If there is, then most likely it is lying on the mattresses.
I have seen larvae and pupae of small fry several times in rotten wood - or in the rotten parts of living trees. But the usual green ones were displayed, as far as I remember.

what masolines on the elytra. I don't remember any of them ( I'll be looking for them this year.

The beetle is interesting. Does anyone know if the development is tied to any kind of tree or develops anywhere? I ask because I've come across two types of malashek:
Malachius bipustulatus Linnaeus, 1758: A massive species everywhere, you can say "dirty".
Anthocomus (Celidus) coccineus Schaller, 1783: This species is found where there are old lime trees (apparently developing in them). And even then I know only one point where you can find it (we don't have many lime trees).

The species is known from the forest-steppe of Western Siberia. There it is found on salt marshes:

This species I caught in the masses on the settled dry forests. There were no lime trees nearby.

I see it only in one place (although I climbed all the way up and down there)confused.gif. And that park is really very old: http://fotowalker.narod.ru/o_poltevo.html

By the way, only females of Semijulistus callosus have shiny areas on the tops of the elytra (calluses according to Ripper). In males, the elytra are uniformly dotted.

Thank you for introducing Anthocomus coccineus (or rufus)! This beetle has been spreading in Finland only recently. So far, there are 7 places of finds. We believe that the food plant is common reed (Phragmites communis). The dictionary gives you reeds, I don't know, how would you say reeds in the vernacular? When mating in flight, it can probably be found anywhere.
The encyclopedia "Die Käfer Mitteleuropas" volume 6 confirms the plant (genus) in Central Europe as well. He himself was engaged in a net in the reeds by the sea at a distance of 15 km from Helsinki to the west in the fall, but without any result. The reed blooms late and the beetle is also autumnal. An interesting exception, in general, malashki-children of spring.

Adding more information:
The beetle is really late.
The pictured specimen of Anthocomus (Celidus) coccineus Schaller, 1783 was found on 30.08.2000.

In the Yaroslavl region, Anthocomus coccineus is found mainly in Yaroslavl (in isolated instances in transport and premises) from late August to early October. Also in September, we (me and Anthrenus,om) mowed down swamp plants-sedge (Carex) and reed (Phragmites). Nikitsky (ZMMSU, Moscow) believes that the larva can develop in wood by analogy with other species of the genus.

Much less often we have another species of this genus - Anthocomus equestris. Caught only twice, and both times on the fly in the city of Yaroslavl.

I somehow do not favor Malashek too much with my interest (as well as, by the way, myagkotelok). But I found Anthocomus equestris a couple of times - in Yaroslavl, on the walls of buildings.

14.01.2011 15:31, vasiliy-feoktistov

I've never met him, although they caught him in Moscow: http://www.zin.ru/Animalia/Coleoptera/rus/antbipkm.htm To be honest, I'm not really looking for them either, but I'm taking a closer look.

This species is spring, usually found in May and also indoors or in transport (on windows). I almost annually at least on a bug, but I find...
