Surroundings of Kirovo-Chepetsk, Kirov region. June 1st.
Fine, approximately 10 mm.

This is something like Eridolius sp. (apparently, the flavomaculatus group) - Tryphoninae, Exenterini.
Even from excellent photos, it is not very realistic to determine - you need a lot of angles for all diagnostic signs

What is the name of the sawfly? U-To Crimea 28.05

here is the genus Sterictiphora dug up, maybe he?

The same genus is most wink.giflikely Sterictiphora furcata, although in Europe there are twins-S. angelicae and ...someone else (they didn't seem to be registered in Crimea). I don't know what the differences confused.gifare

It looks like a male Gymnomerus laevipes Schuckard, although you can't see the middle legs, but Odynerus males seem to have thicker flagellum segments, O. melanocephalus has rusty brown tegulae, spinipes are brighter. Break-in collections to view. A different angle with the middle pelvises and thighs (sideways) could dispel these doubts. Or the specialist will give their verdict.

Alexander, did I manage to catch Chalicodoma? what was discussed on the forum pages with you
http://molbiol.ru/forums/lofiversion/index...33599-4400.html
I caught 6 males, although if I wanted to, I could have caught more. Tergites of the abdomen with unbroken bandages, the color of the body is more dirty-red.The middle of the wings is darkened, on the outer edge of the wing almost discolored. I didn't find any nests, but the males were constantly circling and perching on the sand and exposed rock. On the Internet I found information that Leucospis is a parasite of these bees. We managed to catch one with orazhnevym spots on the body. When I get home, I'll try to determine the exact type of halicode.
I also caught gorgeous vespids (in my opinion), I postponed everything until I arrived home.

In the Crimea, a week ago, I caught males with a halicode on a stone scree, but I never caught them. You cover the top with a net - they fall, you try to cut it from the side-the roughness of the stone chips interferes. Yes, and run around like crazy. Caught two females on flowers and that's it.

my net is made out of a lawn tennis racket. The rim is covered with a strong fabric, so I mowed for two years and still works, as well as catch everything that flies. Of course, it's inconvenient because of the small handle, but I learned to sneak up on animals with vertuozno. smile.gif
In general, quite easily halikodomy flew into the net, he was surprised. I brushed them away, didn't cover them, and went in from the head of a sitting bee and into the opposite passage. It was more difficult to chase pompils and various crabronids that were scurrying along the road, that's where agility was needed. In fact, each copy was given with a fight smile.gif
I put a couple of hundred yellow cups there, but I didn't get any halicodomes, although there were a lot of them there.

This is an absolutely sure way to catch these bees! It is better, of course, to find a colony, but this is not always possible.

here's the place where the halicodomes were running around. Left on the embankment and right on the steps. A couple were caught in the net right on the fly.

and why do males start digging sand?

26.06.2014 12:05, akulich-sibiria

I took a photo on my phone.
1. Here are the males, maybe from these photos you can already tell what kind of species, I have no qualifiers at hand or will increase.techniques. Well, I think that the view is new for our region.
Alexey, by the way, there are two shiny leaf beetles from below, such as I saw only from Tuva, I came across when mowing, a settled meadow, although it is difficult to say on what.

2. here is their parasite-Leucospis (photographed on the side), maybe before the view I will also answer the people

Cool places! I don't know your fauna, but we can assume that it is Megachile (Chalicodoma) desertorum. But this is only an assumption based on the ranges and coloration. We should ask Maxim.

And about Katamenes, everything is very sad, there is such confusion that I haven't figured it out yet. Previously, it was called K. sesquicinctus, now it is called K. tauricus (but it was described from the Crimea, and another species lives in the Crimea - K. dimidiatus, however, it is also not typical, although maybe this is just color variability, and all this is one species, I do not know). If you ask any of your Western colleagues, they will confidently tell you that this is K. tauricus. And I need to find some time to study the material.

As for Eumenides, if it helps, I'll put her on the trail.do you want more detailed photos, if of course it will clarify the situation?
I had one Ch. desertorum from the Kemerovo region. It seems similar, somewhere before it was exposed.
