Good afternoon.
Tell me, please, is this Anomala dubia?
I doubt it because of the brown spot on the pronotum. There were a lot of such beetles on the leaves of grapes in the second half of June.
They were quite active in eating grape leaves. And all these beetles are so identical with a brown spot on the dark green pronotum.
Only one was all green with a metallic sheen.
Kyiv.

Such a spot may still be found in Anomala vitis, which lives in Central and Southern Europe, but here you need to look at other signs (color and relative size of the antenna segments, the greatest width of the pronotum) and compare them by keys with A. dubia. And the fact that beetles eat grape leaves can also indirectly indicate their species affiliation.

I see a lot of such beetles every year on grapes. They do not sit on any other plants, only on grapes.
This photo shows the antennas. Is it possible to determine who it is from such a photo?

Yes, the antennas are dark. That's all A. dubia is like. The species is highly variable in color. I looked at my own similar specimens from the Kiev region - according to their structural features, they fully fit into the framework of this type. Eating on grapes is common for him in the southern regions.

All affinis-see dotted elytra.
All females - see the shape of the hind thighs.

Thank you for your help! We did not have Affinis, only Aeruginosa was caught. But it is smaller than the Aeruginosa that I saw, so I decided to clarify.

Do they bite?

So that on their own initiative to pounce and bite-no. But if you take a beetle in your hands, hold it in your fist, or even worse - put your finger under the jaws - of course, they will bite. What would you do if you were them? wink.gif
