I ask for your help in identifying this large murmur.
In the summer of 2020, they met at the base of a spruce stump in the Chekhov district of the Moscow region. The wingspan is 26mm.

a good horsefly, like Pangonius pyritosus. P. variegatus is less likely - not recorded in Europe.parts, so it is unlikely, and there are not enough illustrations to compare on the web.

The definition of Spilomyia maxima Sack, 1910 was confirmed by Sergey Vasilyevich Pestov (Komi Scientific Center of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences). According to him, it is an extremely rare species of Siberian origin. In the European part, it is known from the Vladimir, Tver, Leningrad, Kirov regions and Chuvashia.

Yes, I remember that Stackelberg in" Sirfids of the Leningrad region " was about one find.
He also wondered how we got a Far Eastern view. Well, I'll look for it.
Are you caught in a deciduous forest?

Does Pestov deal with sirfids? And then I also sometimes have questions about the sirfids of the Russian north-west

I caught it in a clearing in a spruce-aspen forest on the river bank (there are oaks and elms there, but not many). Caught beetles, and then such a "fool" flies over the umbrella....
Pestov was recommended to me by L. V. Yegorov, who found this species in Chuvashia, he did dissertation on them, but apparently-dipter deals with many groups.
