"Similar species" of butterflies

Community and ForumTaxonomy. Classification"Similar species" of butterflies

Species descriptions often indicate "similar species" and what is different from them. I have the following question:
Gentlemen, if View A is similar to View B and View B is similar to View C, can View A always be considered similar to View C?

All the same, the main thing is not what is similar, but what is different.
"can view A always be considered similar to View C?" is too abstract a question... Give a specific example.

In the language of mathematics, you ask whether the relation "to be like" is transitive... umnik.gif In theory, it should be, but "in reality "(biology is an inaccurate sciencetongue.gif, after all ) "I don't think so. For it will come to the point that everything is like everything else. IMHO... wink.gif

"A is similar to species B, and species B is similar to species C, whether species A can always be considered similar to species C"
If they share a common synapomorphic trait, then it is possible.

For the catalog, as one of the properties of the view, I need to fix the ability to specify views that are similar in appearance (i.e., what can be confused, for example). Depending on whether to put all the similar ones in one pile or always divide them in pairs, you need to organize the database somewhat differently. Therefore, there is a need to find out in advance (before publishing content), A = B = C or only A = B and B = C.
I myself think, rather, the second, but suddenly...
