Interested in the opinion of professional taxonomists published in publications on the taxonomy of insects. The question is probably stupid, but I'd rather ask again.

Are the determinants, from the formal (and traditional in narrow circles of taxonomists) point of view, publications on taxonomy or not? That is, an expression of the taxonomist's point of view(statement) about the systematic position of the taxon(from superfamily to subspecies) mentioned in the corresponding table?

Are there any cases in practice when the determinant is part of the FIRST description of a taxon, or a NEW systematic order of already known taxa, or a combination of these two cases?

Depends on what the determinants are.

The publication of new names as part of defining keys-yes, there is a place even now.

The ones that taxonomists actually use.

That is, right in the same article, where the first description is, there is a determinant?

In "green" and in" red " there is such a thing.

Thanks! I would also like to see an example. Poke, pliiiz, not to search. A scan or just a link to the page.

If you are in Moscow, then go to the library (Zoomuseum of Moscow State University or Biofac of Moscow State University), take at least Vol. 4, part 2 "green" on lepidoptera and see. There are descriptions of new species in general in footnotes (!).
But all such descriptions are valid. As far as I know, the Code against descriptions in definers doesn't "say"anything.
In good determinants, the placement of macrotaxons necessarily corresponds to the system adopted by the author! But in the keys by type-the latter are located in the way that it is convenient to "unwind" these signs. Butterflies often have 2 or 3 keys at once: according to external and genital characteristics, the latter - both males and females. At the same time, within the genera, the keys for external signs are of second or third importance for the system, and the genital signs of males are of primary importance. Therefore, there are many cases when the location of species within the genus in the keys on the genitals of males can be interpreted as a reflection of phylogeny and accept the genus system in this form. It depends, of course, on what signs the keys are built, because different parts of the genitals have different "weights".
In other words, determinants are at the" leading edge " of taxonomy in terms of system representation. The fact that they described new species-not from the good life, when there were no computers. Now authors have the opportunity to make new descriptions in full-fledged publications.

I looked it up in Krasny. Indeed, there are a lot of examples.
The issue is closed. Thank you all.
