How do I add new specimen to my collection?

Community and ForumEntomological collectionsHow do I add new specimen to my collection?

k.d.a., 28.07.2008 5:44

I've been collecting for 10 years, I live in Western Siberia and I don't have such a big collection. For the exchange, my material is of little interest since our fauna is poor and if there is something, it is similar to the European one. There is no way to go anywhere, and the collector's passion is boiling. What to do?

First, you need to clarify what exactly you collect. Secondly, why did you decide that the material from the Tomsk region is of little interest? I myself live in Western Siberia, in Omsk (I study butterflies), and at the same time we have some species that are quite good for exchange. In Tomskaya, there should be even more of them, since you are located to the east...

I collect beetles, mostly barbels, and the rest, as they say, whatever comes to hand.

First of all, surely you have not collected all the barbels of the region.? If so, then you should travel more to find out who lives where and when first. Beetles must be collected manually and not only, some go to the light, many to traps for barbels, as well as window traps.
When you collect enough interesting barbels, there will be 2 ways to top up-longer trips or exchange with other people. Many barbels from the list presented by you will be of interest to many forum participants, as well as other people smile.gif
You can also buy beetles, but this is not so serious, although many people like smile.gifit

In my opinion, buying insects for the collection is not so interesting, much more pleasant to catch yourself. Especially when some new or rare beetle is caught the sensations are not peredovaemye! Such feelings can only be understood by someone who has experienced the same thing! and the barbels from the above list are mostly rare or locally distributed, so there are limited numbers in the collection. Beetles from other families I have not identified.

So you have all the types on the list? If so, then you need to change smile.gif
Buying beetles, of course, is not so cool, but you can't catch everything. In general, this has already been discussed in other topics smile.gif
You can also find out about traps and other fishing methods in other topics.

Everything that is on the list I certainly have. For several years, I collected only 1-2 new species for the collection, and only recently I came to my senses and began to make serial collections.
