user posted imageIlnitsa, a fly from the genus Eristalis (Eristalis). It lives on flowers. Flies can "hang" in the air for a long time over puddles, small reservoirs. The larva of this babbler is called a rat. She digs for food at the bottom of puddles. At the same time, its long breathing tube, similar to a rat's tail, must reach the surface, otherwise the larva will suffocate.
The picture was taken in the Astrakhan region.

There is a suspicion that this is not Eristalis - the longitudinal stripes are confusing. IMHO, either Helophilus (AKA Tubifera, I don't know the current nomenclature frown.gif), or something very close. However, these genera are closely related to Eristalis, their larvae are also "rats".

Does Helophilus have mottled eyes? In my opinion, this is just the case for Eristalis.

As a sirfid fighter, I confirm the definition of Proctos. This is indeed Eristalinus sepulchralis. A fairly ordinary view. Previously, the genus was considered a subgenus of Eristalis (see, for example, the" Green " determinant), hence the confusion among the people. Some Eristalis, by the way, have stripes or spots on their eyes, for example, in our common beekeeper ("drone" in children," hour " etc.) Eristalis tenax L. But this is an exception to the rule. Helophilus also has no streaks or spots on its eyes. And about the Scandinavians... But we, Asianswink.gif, can not deny ourselves anything - in some places the road can only be paved through sirfid with a machete or khukri jump.gif

I think it's Eristalinus aeneus

I think it's Eristalinus aeneus

Like aeneus, the entire abdomen is shiny, there are no black matte spots. Yet sepulcralis
