picture: Epilachna.jpgIn Primorye, there is almost no Colorado potato beetle (I personally have never seen it), but its place was taken by a local species of ladybugs – Epilachna vigintioctomaculata or potato ladybug. This species (both adults and larvae) is a malicious pest of all solanaceae. In 1957, at the peak of the population in Primorsky Krai alone, potato crop losses were 360 thousand tons. In recent years, there has been a clear decline in the population. Why this species did not enter other regions from the Far East is unclear.

They didn't deliver it... But he can't "pass" to the north and west of Primorye. Go find some potatoes in the Siberian taiga...

The fact is that epilachna lived on the farm even before potatoes, eating natural solanaceae. Potatoes are actively grown in Siberia - Chita, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk, etc. I'm not talking about Kazakhstan.

I was referring to the delivery of "coloradets", and potato epilachna, as far as I know, does not live anywhere in Russia except in the Far East. And between the Siberian" centers " of potato breeding, there are hundreds and thousands of kilometers of taiga, where you can't find it in the daytime with fire...

Epilakhna reaches the Amur region, and in the south - to Vietnam and India. If we take into account that this cow also feeds on pumpkin crops, then with such a huge range and a diverse diet, its penetration into other regions is inevitable. There are many stations between Blagoveshchensk and Chita, where potatoes are grown, and adventitious nightshades and pumpkins grow along the railway. Apparently, it's not just about distances. Until now, it is not clear what the outbreaks of this ladybug population in the Far East are related to (they do not have any periodicity).

Since 1961, it belongs to the genus Henosepilachna.

This is a controversial issue: not all experts share this opinion.
