Yes, I forgot to mention that all photos are magnified from 2 to 10 times. Do not think that they are really so huge.

picture: post_17926_1171296366.jpgThe Vietnamese (Annam) stick beetle (Baculum extradentatum) lives in Vietnam. It is colored either brown or green. Size-males up to 7 cm; females up to 11 cm (females have spiked spines on their heads, similar to horns). It is well maintained and reproduces at home (females lay eggs without the help of males, from which full-fledged individuals hatch).

It is already called differently, not Baculum extradentatum, but Medauroidea extradentata.

Does anyone know the genetic mechanism of the appearance of males in the offspring of unfertilized females in this species?

Does anyone know the genetic mechanism of the appearance of males in the offspring of unfertilized females in this species?

I've heard that this species has both parthenogenesis and sexual reproduction. In nature, males make up about 20% of the total population. At home, I think a male is very rare.
