Trans-Baikal horse (Cicindela transbaikalica Motschulsky) Sem. Ground beetles (Carabidae)
Amur region, Blagoveshchensk district, sandy shore on the Zeya River. 8.05.2006г.

It is widely distributed in the Far East (Amur Region, Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories, Sakhalin Island, Japan, Korea, China) and in the south of Eastern Siberia. It lives on the sandy banks of rivers and lakes. Larvae are predators that live in the holes they dig, in which they sit, lying in wait for prey. Active in the dark. The larvae are characterized by a curved body and a hump-shaped swollen 5th abdominal segment, which carries support formations. Adults, on the other hand, are active during the day in bright sunlight. They hunt in open areas and feed on ants. Adult beetles have well-developed legs of the running type, with the hind legs exceeding the body length. This helps when hunting mobile prey.

Don't equate entomology with forensic science! Racehorses eat any small creatures. And large, even harmless ones, such as flies, but the size of themselves, are not attacked. My observations, kept C. hybrida in captivity.

I'll take your word for it! I haven't done any trophies yet (I still have enough ecology). Although, it is reliably studied by autopsy. I can also add that the larvae feed on small caterpillars.
