Carabus (Pachystus) hortensis hortensis Linné, 1758
In the most recent checklists, hortensis already appears in the subgenus Pachystus. I decided to take a look at this case myself. Still yes - Pachystus. So we change the labels together smile.gif

I wouldn't rush into rewriting labels. This decision, IMHO, can be considered ambiguous. Yes, the C. hortensis sac is structurally similar to that of Pachystus, with one caveat : it is much less prominent, which means it is more primitive, and therefore older. This is also evident from the external morphological features, which faintly resemble those of representatives of the younger divergent mesoxerophilic branch of true Pachystus.
With the same success, you can thank Deva for a long time, and feel free to rewrite the labels of Trachycarabus on Morphocarabus. The situation is similar. Especially if we compare the shape of European and Siberian endophallus Morphocarabus. smile.gif

This is true, and I myself was very critical of this state of affairs at first, but it does not quite fit with Oreocarabus and C. hortensis, especially in light of the revolutionary shuffling in this subgenus.
By the way, in the southern subspecies Megodontus violaceus, the bags are also less prominent. And these are not even different types.

Maybe soon I'll get to the "real" Spanish Oreocarabus to compare.

As for Trachycarabus, only with estreicheri and latreillei close to it, the situation is floating (maybe Dev only saw them). Other species have a well-isolated characteristic endophallus.
