Not uncommon. In the seaside lowlands in the old light pine forests. But other parts of Latvia don't have it. According to the larval passages and brood chambers of beetles, the species is recorded relatively often. The beetles themselves are caught poorly - you need to look for a long time.

Does it fly on UV light?

It's flying! 2 times caught and on the light... Ie, rather, does not fly smile.gifThis summer, the daughter of a colleague odnolgo found right in the city on the sidewalk under the lamp (in the evening). Also a question - did you accidentally fly in and sit there, or did you fly specifically to the lamp?!

P. coriarius behaves in a similar way - it does not fly up to the lamp, but sits on the ground next to it.

In general, this is how many large beetles behave.

According to the literature, Prionus flies better to light than Ergates. As a matter of fact, it is difficult to say. Unfortunately, I have too little information on this subject.

Here is a short photo report on the Facebook profile of my colleague about catching Ergates faber in the light in the vicinity of Riga in early August 2014. The text is in Latvian, but it won't be a hindrance.
