In the Far East, there are three times more hawk moth than in the middle zone.
Who else has photos in nature, especially?

A lot of hawkmoth from the Far East is on the http://tpittaway.tripod.com/china/. (there would be more similar sites with an overview of all the species and subspecies of various families of the Palearctic).

it is worth noting that Tony Pittaway, when describing hawk moth from the territory of the Russian Federation, refers to V. Izersky.

Are there any hawks with a wingspan of more than 15 cm?
Dolbina exacta in my opinion is gigantic...

Dolbina exacta-small, 5.5 cm.
More than 15 cm is cool.
But Clanis undulosa, local female 11.5 cm, Marumba sperchius-12 cm, female Phyllosphingia dissimilis-9.5 cm

Ah, got it. For reasons beyond my smile.gifcontrol, I confused it with this one:

Nothing so-so confused.

Not the one that would be exclusively oriental, for that in nature.

If I remember correctly, the first finds of this hawk moth on the territory of Southern Primorye date back to 2002. Since then, it seems that the species has taken root here in Russia. It is known from the Ussuri and Khasansky districts. Personally, I have seen copies dated from the first decade of May to the first decade of July.
I myself tried to remove butterflies from the caterpillars, but the experiment, unfortunately, did not work out - the pupae died.
T.o., to A. naga hissarica from Tajikistan, the Far Eastern A. naga naga has now been added to the fauna of the former USSR.
I am happy to present a male and a female (Khasansky district, June 2003)

Then there are 2 species of the genus Macroglossum.
The first, an old acquaintance of stellatarum, whom I personally met only once at the end of September 2005 in the Khasansky district
, And the second, for me this is a UFO, I did not catch it myself-a gift. The butterfly was caught in July 1984 in the Khasansky district Gorshkov Bay

On http://tpittaway.tripod.com/china/china.htm there is one... true there are many similar ones and it is difficult to determine smile.gif

14.10.2007 18:31, Grigory Grigoryev

Now the genus Hemaris consists of 3 species:
1. Hemaris affinis (someone considers fuciformis a subspecies, but in my opinion two different species). Ussuriysky district on June 01, 2003. In 2 hours, 11 exs were caught. on cherry blossoms.
2. Hemaris staudingeri female. Partizansky district Anisimovka May 1990. Quite rare species
3. Hemaris radians. Gift. Shkotovsky district July 1985

Well, Sphecodina caudata!
I refrain from making any comments. They said that the butterfly is regularly seen in Anisimovka, near the rock outcrops.
Lazovsky district July 1979. I didn't catch it myself

"On http://tpittaway.tripod.com/china/china.htm there is one... true there are many similar ones and it is difficult to determine"

AntSkr, thank you!
By UFO, I meant that I had never seen one myself. The species is clear, we have recorded 3 species of this genus in Primorye, not counting stellatarum. This one (pyrrhosticta) is the most likely. The rest are known from isolated finds.

14.10.2007 22:46, Pavel Morozov

Wow! Finally, our forum now has sphecodina!
But there is still something to continue: Macroglossum saga, M. bombylans, Acherontia lachesis, Theretra oldenlandiae, Clanis bilineata, etc.

can I send the entire list of Far Easterners to the studio at once? Although you can also list the former SSS, who is not lazy smile.gif

15.10.2007 0:07, Pavel Morozov

For example, a photo of a male and female Deilephila elpenor from the Khasansky district (Andreyevka, 20-28.07.2006) was taken as extras. For comparison with them, a specimen from the Moscow region was taken (Odintsovo district, Chigasovo, June, 2006).
The seaside ones seem to have more pink.

And more.
Hawk moth of the genus Dolbina. I got a little confused about them. On the right - it seems like all D. exacta, on the left-it can also be D. tancrei.
Is it so? Help please. mol.gif

Macroglossum is really like a UFO. Flutter over the flowers and scratch somewhere. We saw someone near Andreevka, but we didn't even have time to react.

15.10.2007 8:35, Grigory Grigoryev

To MOROZZZ:
on the left are the two upper ex., most likely, D. tancrei, about the lower one I can not say - the elderly one is quite old. On the right - exacta.
In the series, you can see better. I'll take a picture and post it.

Sincerely
