"The butterflies of North Asia in nature" by Pavel Gorbunov & Oleg Kosterin
Volume 1. 2003. Moscow, 300x235 mm, 783 col photos, col maps, index, In English. Hdb, 392pp.
Volume 2. 2007. Moscow, 300x235 mm, 852 col photos, col maps, index, In English. Hdb, 408pp.

Friends! It seems to have happened! And our two-volume book "The butterflies of North Asia (Asian part of Russia) in Nature" with Oleg Kosterin has become more accessible to the Russian reader. I think the price is 3000 rubles. for a large and thick album, published at the highest printing level, "with a claim to chic" (http://kotbegemot.livejournal.com/111347.html), in Russia, no one will be surprised. This is exactly the price set by the publisher for the Russian market today, including airmail from Lithuania (which is 750 rubles!), where the book was printed.
Unfortunately, few people still know about the book, because there was no advertising and the implementation of the first volume was very poorly organized. Now, finally, both volumes have appeared at the main European distributors, but at a price of about 180 Euros per volume.

In addition to information on distribution, biotopes, summer time, imago behavior, forage plants, preimaginal phases, and geographic and individual variability, the books contain area maps and, in the second volume, primary descriptions of approximately 15 new subspecies from Kamchatka and Chukotka.

With apologies for the self-promotion shuffle.gif, but it's not in my own selfish interests.
For those who are interested, and who doubt, I am ready to post here photos of individual pages of the book. Tomorrow. I can't shoot it again at night, and I don't have a scanner. What types do you want?

To purchase books, it is useless to contact authors, only with the publisher:
Valery (Kostantinovich) Roots. E-mail: rodinafodio@mail.ru

Here is an excerpt from his letter to me today:
"For Russian buyers:
Volume 1 – 2500 rubles, volume 2-3500 rubles (the second volume is more expensive, also because it is heavier than 2 kg)
For both volumes - 6000 rubles (including airmail from Vilnius).

Books are good, books are cool! But still, try to upload your scans. And then buying books on kg somehow does not attract. In addition to butterflies, I also collect literature about them.

People, has anyone already ordered this book through the Creation of the World Foundation and sent it from Vilnius? Is everything going smoothly? I'm sorry that I'm playing it safe, it's just that the amount is decent and I don't want to take any risks. Sincerely, Ekos.

Try contacting the publisher by email instead. True, he is now in Moscow, not Vilnius, but he should check his email address. He's a very decent man...

Thank you. I wrote to him yesterday, but I haven't received an answer yet...

I recently received both volumes of this album. I want to say that I am happy with it and do not regret the purchase. Printing, of course, class! The only thing I noticed is that most of the photos in the first volume are slightly inferior in quality to those in the second volume. The scientific side of the publication also pleased me - I haven't noticed any outright blunders that most recent publications are full of. The authors have included a lot of original data that has never been published before. The only thing that upset me was that some of the works of recent years, apparently, remained unknown to the authors, so there are not quite complete species essays. It also seems to me that a number of subspecies from Kamchatka and Chukotka, whose primary descriptions are published in the book, are synonymous with existing taxa.
There are few typos, I noticed two so far.
But these are small things compared to everything else. So, many thanks for an interesting and useful project to authors and publishers!
