By the way, when I was last in Berlin, at the Humboldt University Zoo Museum, Mr. May actively asked me if I knew anything about Mr. Kondratiev. And, judging by the intonation, he was very dissatisfied with the fact that no news of the types taken had been received from the specified gentleman for many years. Not good...

The answer is sent to the PM! I hope it satisfied you?

Kick me, but in my opinion on both photos the usual Cossus cossus

The second one is still possible, but the first one was too small for Kossus.

07.08.2011 22:26, John-ST

The size is not an indicator, but judging by the coloring of the back of kossus, it can be "drank, smoked, was ill"

08.08.2011 4:45, Yakovlev

Both are Cossus cossus. The genus Deserticossus does not have a comb on its antennae. I have a fairly large series from the Lower Volga, where they are really quite different in appearance.

.. I saw how Dmitry Podgornov (Penza) "soaked" his well-grown woodworms in gasoline for lighters and then straightened them out - they turned out very well...
I am writing a short article on Penza woodworms and I also think it would be necessary to do "degreasing" with my collections in the summer...
Rum, or maybe they should be better prepared-by removing the fat sac???

Here is an interesting type of woodworm:

There is no "bag" there, the fat body is amorphous, and it actually accounts for most of the belly smile.gif

In the South of Ukraine in steppe biotopes smile.gif.
Males were caught only accidentally when mowing or when catching other butterflies found already in the net. Conclusion they are in the middle of sitting on tall plants.
Females caught only crawling on the ground. If they fly, it's very bad.

Hello. This year, four specimens were found, although the type or types were not determined. All butterflies from southern Primorye;1-3-Pogranichny district, 23.06.12, 4-Ussuriysky district. The first three are probably females, and the fourth looks like a male. If you can help with the definition, I will be grateful.

Good afternoon

I couldn't answer earlier. the top three females are 99% Cossus orientalis Gaede, but you need to send me an email with a high-quality image of the lower female, because this may be another species of Cossus siniaevi, the only male of which is found in the Russian Federation from Yu. Primorye in the Tsvetaev collection. But the image is not very high-quality and it is difficult for me to say.
The male in the second photo is Deserticossus tsingtauana Bang-Hass, a fairly common species in the Far East and South China. To the west it reaches Buryatia (Selenga Valley).

07.01.2013 10:08, KONI

To Yakovlev; Thank you very much.We can't get a better quality photo yet.
