I suggest posting photos of insects that you display at home in this topic! (from adult mating to pupal hatching), I am sure that many breeders have a lot of interesting photos!

were there any shoots? lol.gif I once brought home a spherical nest in my youth, which was torn down by the wind and hung on the wall, and a few weeks later I climbed on the wall myself from os lol.gif

18.01.2012 23:05, Hierophis

vespa crabro, what, right now?? Wow!

AGG, hahaha, here you give it))))) Why, for a few weeks, you can see that all the working wasps were quiet when the wind blew them off, and then the young ones hatched? )

19.01.2012 6:13, vespa crabro

I photographed it yesterdaysmile.gif))))

19.01.2012 6:15, vespa crabro

I don't have them wintering))

19.01.2012 11:52, Hierophis

They don't hibernate, but they don't build anything either! Something very difficult seems to be the achievement and glanvoe understanding of all the mechanisms that will encourage wasps to build a nest in a terrarium!

19.01.2012 18:00, vespa crabro

I know,I bought a new terrarium))And in that terrarium I just hung a nest(for beauty)I dripped honey there in drops, several wasps sat there and sat for a long time, one wasp took very good care of an empty nest. Then, when I bought a new terrarium ,I started dragging everything around.I took tore the nest off the cardboard and saw a small miracle - this is a larva, but I had to throw out the larva(since the young queen died ((((). in my terrarium they slightly adjusted the nestsmile.gif

10.03.2012 22:10, Hierophis

vespa crabro, is it now?????

10.03.2012 22:12, vespa crabro

Hierophis, no, it was summer!!

10.03.2012 22:27, Hierophis

And unas soon soon the wasps will wake up, well, in good years they already woke up by March 15, and this year probably after 20. These are polysts. German and ordinary people generally wake up late, probably in mid-April.
In general, it would be very good if we could find a female polist for the winter and move her to Terr. Maybe it will wake up there and make a nest.

10.03.2012 22:42, vespa crabro

Lucky...And we still have the snow has not come down ((
In the summer I picked up several nests, a lot of polistov hatched, tried to count, counted 42 polistov, then all the workers died, and 24 queens remained. So they live for now, the nest will be built at the end of April.Ehh for a long time((
I would like to try to contain Vespa crabro or Dolichovespula saxonica. In your terr. it's possible!Only hornets will eat the insects that live there0))

10.03.2012 23:20, Hierophis

Ta no, it's impossible in my terrarium like this! There are more hornets out there. It seems to me that polists could live, and even then with a stretch. For wasps, you generally need to make a separate terrarium, free from thickets of plants.
By the way, we don't have any Saxon wasps.

For example, I still can't imagine how the wasps that will live in the terrarium will not beat against the glass. Will they really remember? I observed a nest of German wasps in a kibitka of some kind, like a gatehouse. So there was a nest inside the kibitka and a summer house inside. The wasps first flew into the caravan, and then through the doorway to the street.
And there was a window, of course, with all the panes intact.
So that was the joke - some wasps flew out - and out the window! And as usual on the glass climb and buzz. But there weren't many of them, most of them flying straight through the door. Probably they somehow remember that it is impossible to fly out through the window, and only young wasps knock.

11.03.2012 13:47, vespa crabro

No, it seems to me that plants are needed, the wasps will have somewhere to hide, they will look for food(searching the leaves), they need to be given a slightly complicated life, like in nature. And it also seems to me that it is not beautiful without plants, just some empty terrarium.I have terr. with plants, and nothing!!

As for the glass, the wasps remembered that they couldn't fly through it,and they began to fly in the middle and on the sides.

By the way, what is your YouTube channel?I have vespa51546333!

vespa crabro, I agree about the plants, I just have a very dense vegetation in my terrarium right now.
In general, I like to keep common insects flying outside, interseno watch their activity, it's just nice that they live nearbysmile.gif, Of course, interseno look into the nest, what's going on there, but only honeybees and bumblebees that I kept on the balcony were allowed to do this. Well, polists, of course, but paper wasps-not only do they cover the honeycombs with a paper layer, but they are also very aggressive, there as with bees and bumblebees it will not work.

Bees and bumblebees have a very low level of resentment at the opening of the nest, especially in some bumblebee species and bee breeds. But paper wasps do not even touch the nest.
