Ventilation in insects

Community and ForumOther questions. Insects topicsVentilation in insects

Maybe one of your respected colleagues can tell you how ventilation is carried out in termite nests or, say, in leafcutter ants. Unfortunately, I've only found popular essays so far. I would like to know in detail with an emphasis on the aerodynamics of the issue.

And why do leaf cutters have them? How are the others worse?

I'm not much of an expert on social insects, so I didn't elaborate much. It seemed to me that species that are in symbiosis with fungi (or plants) need increased ventilation, since it is fungi that consume most of the oxygen in the nest. In short, I came across Turner's report that previous ideas about the natural ventilation of macrotherms are wrong. Termite towers (everyone lives below, underground, and the upper grandiose part is only for climate control!) they are used to ensure that the nest is ventilated by the wind.
In short, I would like to hear something in detail on the topic. I'm just currently engaged in ventilation in the scientific and practical sphere - so I combine the useful with the pleasantsmile.gif.

Look for Kipyatkov's books. I'm not sure, but it might help. But with an emphasis on aerodynamics.... I can't tell you, unfortunately. Biophysicists did a lot of flying, but not much airing.

find out how ventilation is performed in termite nests or, say, in leafcutter ants.
