It is very convenient to go by bus from Novosibirsk, it is 2 times a day to Chemal (6 hours on the way, 600-800r. in 2006), the Chui tract turns south a little earlier than Chemal. You can transfer there. This is much less hemorrhoid than through Urlovsky Barnaul (the station there is - God forbid, a country station, and I have not seen a steeper and more pleasant station than in Novosibirsk, buses are on its other side. In akademkniga you can look - there are a lot of things that do not reach Moscow, especially paleontology) with incomprehensible buses to Gornoaltaysk. unfortunately, I do not have any money yet, so I will not ask for fellow travelers( Along the Katun River there is a solid civil along all-cottages, boarding houses-they offer kayaking and horseback riding, ganj grows along the road, mummies at local markets, shops like "ways to yourself" sell local so-so crafts and pictures, among which perhaps only tambourines made by non-locals are worth something - this is me about the Chemala-Sev district.Altai)) But the village Altaians themselves are boozy and unfriendly. I do not know what is being done away from Katun.

I personally thought that the Altai Republic (also known as Gorny Altai) is much more interesting than the Altai Territory, especially if you get closer to Mount Belukha.By nature in general and by butterflies in particular...I didn't catch it, but I managed to take some photos...the population likes to drink very much, but not all harmful, there are even very nice and friendly Altaians and even booze can behave well...although it is necessary to be slightly on the lookout for miracles are found in the sieve...

No, you don't need to flood. There is a specific route, and you don't need to knock it off.

15.02.2008 22:30, zerg69

so only the Shebalino-Aktash route is allowed to be discussed?well, sorry, good luck.I think there will be a lot of entomologists traveling with us...I'm really going to Argut-karagem, with all the equipment for night fishing, a generator and other joys, but this flood is natural...

Don't be offended!Just the next person would write- " Come on, this Altai, southern Primorye is much more fun, go there."I know from my own experience-to stand firm on your own.Otherwise, anarchy and no one will go anywhere.I wish you good luck in Argut-Karagem ,be sure to unsubscribe in the "fishing reports", do not forget about crocs as well.

You can learn more about the cost of expensive, at least approximate.. But not from Israel smile.gifIf diligent, then I can sign up as a candidate smile.gifBecause according to the stories of some people in 07, it scored 2000, not rubles naturally smile.gif

For your information:
On August 8, 2008, a total solar eclipse band will pass through the Altai Mountains (and the next one visible anywhere in Russia will be more than 30 years weep.gifaway ). If you have to travel on August 8, then you will probably be interested in observing the behavior of insects during the eclipse.
I'm also going to Gorny Altai during this period, but I'm more into plants...

It's a little late in August, and you won't be able to stay too long...

Maybe someone will tell you what to expect in general in Altai at the end of July from beetles? Carabuses go away, flowers do not bloom..

Beginning. Novosibirsk. 08.06.08.

When all the tails were knocked out,and the necessary goods were purchased in addition, the total weight was estimated. It wasn't sickly! I have a backpack of 21 kg and a shoulder bag of 7 kg. Andrey has a huge 120-liter somewhere on 30-35 kg., a hand bag with cereals and provisions for 18 kg, and a small bag with " anti-bream’.
They took us to the train station by car and helped us load into the car.We were traveling with a reserved seat. The train is convenient Novosibirsk-Biysk, departs in the evening and arrives early in the morning .We slept at night.Everything went smoothly.(pictured with Andrey)

Day one.Biysk-Shebalino 09.06.08.

At 05:30, everyone was woken up .At 06: 30, we disembarked and were met by the driver(Andrey had agreed in advance).I helped with my things and took them to Shebalino.
The road to Shebalino is very beautiful. The beginning of the Chui highway. When leaving Biysk, the woods begin to grow.Flashed outside the window Biya with islands, and then it was replaced by its stormy waters Katun. In the mass of small rivers and streams, no less stormy .Closer to Shebalino, hills with rocky outcrops appeared.
We arrived at about 10:30.We were stopped right outside the hotel. As long as we're lucky, we don't carry much stuff. The weather is clear, and even hot.We quickly throw things in the room and quickly get ready to run to the rocks across the river. All I can think about is Parnassius clarius.
After crossing the bridge, they came up against the rocks. Not high, but pretty steep. At the foot of the mountain, pigeons swarm in a mass. From their number I fall into entomological shock. There was quite a lot of cannabis with broken tops.
I notice Clarius. The flight is fast, although in most cases soaring.Almost vertically goes up along a sheer cliff.I am in a state of confusion-how to catch it?!Ground squirrels, which run in abundance along the shore and near the rocks, are easier to catch…In the distance,I see something large and white flying straight at me.A swing of the net and the net are beating ... hawthorn! As I pull it out of the net,I see Clarius sitting on a flower next to me.I cover him with a net,and he does not pay any attention and continues to process the flower.I get the loot out of the net,and it's broken, even very broken.Disappointment, of course, but not discouragement.Still, it's here!I wish I could have come a week earlier…My eyes continue to run along the sheer cliffs, looking for white sails.A small pigeon flies and clarius quickly rises from the embankment behind it.The flight is direct, fast, and confident(later I determined the quality of the butterfly from the fly).I run after them. From the first swing-a miss, but from the second in the net, the goal of my visit to Shebalino. The male!Clean!Simply handsome! Then it went easier, apparently, gained experience.I also got used to finding a scooter.
On the radio, Andrey reports the capture of 2 female Parnassius phoebus and clariuses.I've got the Clariuses all right, but the Phoebes are still at zero.I decide to take a break from Clarius and collect pigeons.Their sea!Sometimes there were 5-6 butterflies of 3-4 species per stroke in the net.
Where the river comes close to the rocks, many Neptis rivularis and Clossiana selene fly.Colias nyale flickered like yellow sparks over the swamp.
The heat is becoming unbearable. And we took some water. To run to the village for water during such fishing breaks.Fortunately, I find a spring. We are based near it.I'm gradually coming out of shock.Clarius is quite ordinary. But mostly broken. The ratio of ideal to flown and broken is 1: 4.
I notice a man walking in our direction with a net.Entomologist from Voronezh, Sergey. He told us that it's been a week in the Altai, and the heat has been terrible for several days.Ideally in the mass of Parnassius stubbendorffii, but there everything is already burned by the sun.I was also in Aktau.Parnassius eversmanni has already taken off!And this is at the beginning of June! And that in Shebalino, Clarius has been mostly broken for a long time, and Phoebus is almost gone. And that their travels are 3rd.He is the infamous Yuri Berezhnoy and a 72-year-old Japanese man.And in the evening they return to Aktash. But we are not in a hurry to leave yet.The weather pleases us and we will still be in Shebalino for a day or two.
We decide to try to explore other areas. On the way up the hill we meet a Japanese man. With Russian, his English is weak and we leave him alone.Sitting on the top of the hill, we enjoyed nature and looked at the scenery.Yu came up to us.Careful.They chatted and wagged their fingers a little. He didn't do us any harm, and we didn't punish him.We decide to return to the hotel, sort out and sign the catch, eat and prepare for the night fishing.

Just a song!!
You don't even need to watch a movie - you can see Shebalino, the Clariuses, and .... Yura Berezhnoy.
How long ago it was - in 1992.
I am very happy for the guys, because any collection in the USSR, and now in Russia, has always started with the Far East and, of course, with the Altai. In my opinion, no one has passed Aktash.
WELL DONE!!

Day 2. Shebalino 10.06.08
The weather is clearly beginning to deteriorate. The previous day was clear and hot,but today the sky is overcast and the sun is rarely visible.I still manage to catch about 5 clariuses.Andrey has almost the same, but also one more Phoebus in the asset. Why is he (Phoebus) ignoring me so much?!
Andrey is fishing near a spring, 100-150 meters away from me.I see that the 2nd ones with nets are approaching it.I get in touch with him on the radio and says that they are entomologists from Penza.I approach and we meet.Nice young guys Slava and Dima.Passing through Primorye, we stopped in the Altai to visit local Parnassinae.Tomorrow, just like us, they are going to go to Aktau. We are not clear about this yet. With whom and how to go is unknown. We agree to keep in touch with them.
And the weather continues to get worse.A thunderstorm is approaching. On the way to the hotel, the Doge still catches up with us.But after half an hour, the sun appears and we run to catch again.Andrey is going to explore the forest and the slopes above the rocks, but I,not trusting the weather, decide to steer near the rocks. And very successfully!A thunderstorm thunders in the sky again, and I tell Andrey on the radio go to the gathering place. The weather turned bad completely and we didn't catch any more fish that day.(in the photo I (TALER))

Day 3 .Shebalino-Aktash. 11.06.08
The morning is gloomy, but we still go fishing. The sky is overcast, sometimes drizzling light rain, even more like dust. But worst of all, there was a strong, rather cold wind. There are almost no butterflies!Sometimes it is possible to knock out a pigeon from the grass, which is immediately picked up by the wind and carried away.Sadly.
Slava and Dima came up.Without nets. They said that they had agreed with the driver to take us to Aktash as well.We got together quickly.
We go in a gazelle to Aktash for 300 rubles per person. The first stop is the Seminsky pass. And there's a blizzard on it.Slava is wearing shorts, but also gets out of the car to smoke. It looks funny.
As soon as we crossed the pass-great weather!!!The next stop was an inn.The heat is under 30.Butterflies fly, but we didn't get any nets and ate ice cream.
Further, the road is even more picturesque than Biysk-Shebalino.High mountains appeared.Often the road went along the edge of a gorge, at the bottom of which rivers and streams were rushing violently(I apologize for not knowing the names). There are few settlements, and if there are, they are small. We drove for a long time, probably 5 hours.
Upon arrival in Aktau,we were met by Eduard Ayubayev.A wonderful person and conversationalist.Hunter, amateur radio operator and ... deputy from Ulagan district! He told us a lot about the region and Aktash.Eduard himself is not an entomologist, but over the years of meeting and communicating with them, he himself picked up the names of butterflies.Eduard placed us in a local hotel of signalmen.Free of charge! And in the morning he promised to take us to the abandoned village of Mena for Parnassius tenedius .(On the photo:1. Svyazistov Hotel 2.Eduard Ayubaev )
