I'm going to Sri Lanka for work at the end of May. Question. What's going on in the beetle at this time? Where should I fish? Well etcsmile.gif

And who should I work for to go to Sri Lanka?

And who should I work for to go to Sri Lanka?

Yes! And isn't there a need for, say, a gardener? shuffle.gif wink.gif

As far as I know, I mean, I've heard from people who have visited this country, collecting insects there is very risky and fraught with trouble.

I don't want to play a game of "broken phone". I hope that the direct participants of those events will tell you about them. I think they should be present on this forum.

I came back from Sri Lanka. an amazing country, a paradise for an entomologist, but with a lot of shoals. Some photos.

Congratulations! How were you fishing?

Despite the obstacles (and the work), it was possible to support individual groups quite well (dung beetles, karapuzikov, Khrushchev, and some other things). I didn't expect it, but I collected 2 types of Scarits.. As I understand it, Sri Lanka is characterized by a large percentage of endemism.. So there is something good to exchangesmile.gif

How big was the monitor lizard?

01.06.2009 11:38, Frantic

By eye - about 80-90 cm. In Sri Lanka, they are found in 2 species-Varanus bengalensis and Varanus salvator, which is captured in the photo. It can exceed 2 meters in length.

gymnopleurs are cute, and the lizard is thin smile.gif
Have a good trip!

Thanks! Gymnoplevry is available for exchange..

Did you catch any orthopteroids?" It looks like grillacridine in the photo, but I'm afraid it's a larva.

01.06.2009 19:40, Frantic

There is one nice predator. The photo, imho, is not a larva-I'll post a photo of the larva of this species tomorrow (I also made it).

01.06.2009 20:55, Zlopastnyi Brandashmyg

I meant cockroaches, earwigs, erect wings, etc. Collectors usually do not like them, but in vain.

01.06.2009 21:26, Frantic

I saw a bunch of cockroaches, earwigs, and erectfrown.gif-winged insects, one ant, and some kind of unexplained crap-like a wasp with long jaws pointing forward, not down.

Alas frown.gif

entomologist's paradise, but with a bunch of shoals

So what are all the shoals and difficulties there? I would like to know if I'm also going to go there in the near future.

I enclose the promised photo of "horseradish".. What kind of ant is this?

Perhaps it was just bad luck, but only one such ant was caught (and extracted).. Flew to the light at an altitude of 700m. Other ants walked (and flew) in droves..

Super, it looks like it is. Here's some interesting info:

He bit the tweezers brutally.. I don't put ants in my collection, but this one will be an exceptionsmile.gif

Thanks!

Yeah, an ant. Good!

04.06.2009 11:46, Frantic

Identified a rhino collected near Colombo-Oryctes rhinoceros Linnaeus 1758. It turned out to be a female-in this species they also have a horn. But with the definition of dung beetles, a complete ambush - coprov has not yet identified any species.
