Koh Chang or Koh Samui

People, we are going to go on vacation in Tai, in the first half of October. At the same time, I want to catch some beetles. Which island, in your opinion, is better from this point of view?

I was on Co Chang, but already in 2000! Besides, I'm not a bug hunter, so I can't recommend anything specific about beetles. Why go to the island? Or are there any accompanying persons for whom the beach is necessary?

Yes, everything is sosmile.gif In addition, I was on the mainland near Bangkok - I didn't like it at all (from all points of view). I had an idea to fly to Chang Mai, but then I decided that if I really needed it, it would be cheaper to buy something that I probably wouldn't catch at this time of yearsmile.gifanyway))

I was in Koh Samui in July 2008. There are a lot of butterflies, though mostly banal species, but with beetles it was a little sad. True, the inhabitants of manure can be caught, and the rest is piecemeal.

My impressions of Co Chang are good. The center of the island is the national park, where tourists are allowed to enter during the day through a checkpoint. The entire coast, of course, is given over to numerous resorts with all the resort pleasures. Nevertheless, there are still a lot of pieces of forest of varying degrees of shabbiness (was it?). Since the forest areas are directly adjacent to the national park, the fauna was rich! At night, we wandered and collected absolutely untidily. On the other hand, we tried not to light up. They collected by "manual collection", tried to set traps "for beer", but not very successfully. If I find it, I will post photos that give an idea of the "theater of operations".

vo there were already photos here: http://molbiol.ru/forums/index.php?showtop...025#entry713025

I was on Koh Samui and neighboring Phangan in February = the driest month of the year, I'm not interested in beetles, in two weeks I saw no more than 5 specimens.
I liked the center of Koh Samui, the main thing is to get deeper and higher ) It's dreary along the coast. This is me from the point of view of the mace-moustaches.

Thanks! Beetles are also good where higher up.. By the sea, there are only gomnyuki and a few races (from relatively interesting ones), skaritins, plus all sorts of crunches..

If you stop in Koh Samui, I can give you directions on the map where to move away from the coast. I've ridden the whole length and breadth of the island on a moped, so I don't know much about it. By the way, although Phangan is much less developed, but the variety of scales is less, still the size and height of the island probably affect. I do not know the primary, not the primary, but the vegetation in the depths of Koh Samui is very interesting, and not that bulavousy there are far from banal.

Gennady, thank you very much. If it is not difficult, please send the reference points to e-mail:

I also fished in the center of the island, because there are only hotels on the coast, but there were only a few beetleseek.gif. I can send you photos of local attractions, including local Coleoptera

Could you put them out here?"

There (Koh Samui) is practically no forest. All these are fruit-coconut-rubber plantations of varying degrees of neglect.
I'm not interested in insects myself, but the spiders there are fucking smile.gif.

Alas! my trip to Koh Samui failed. Replacement country found, but I won't say anything yet, so as not to jinxsmile.gifit
