Dear young people considering where to go to study entomology!
There are not many universities and programs that teach entomology. One of these universities is the St. Petersburg State Forestry Engineering Academy (SPbGLTA) (http://www.ftacademy.ru/).
SPbGLTA is the oldest forestry university in the country and one of the first universities in St. Petersburg: The Academy was founded in 1803 and is second only in age to the State University and the Mining Institute in St. Petersburg.
Department of Zoology and Hunting (http://ftacademy.ru/academy/faculties/LHF/cafedra/zoologia/) has a rich history: the main disciplines of the department – entomology and biology of forest animals and birds-were taught almost from the first days of the existence of the Imperial Forest Institute.
Such outstanding Russian entomologists as N. A. Kholodkovsky, I. Ya. Shevyrev, A. A. Silantyev, P. N. Spesivtsev, M. N. Rimsky-Korsakov, A.V. Yatsenkovsky, V. Ya. Shipperovich, V. I. Gusev, F. A. Polozhentsev, O. A. Kataev worked at the department at various times. The staff of the department created textbooks and educational films. The department has a unique Museum of Forest Entomology named after M. N. Rimsky-Korsakov (http://ftacademy.ru/academy/museum/museum1/), annual Scientific Readings on forest Entomology are held in memory of Professor O. A. Kataev.
The department offers a master's program and a postgraduate course in forest entomology.
If you have any questions, please contact us (http://ftacademy.ru/academy/faculties/LHF/cafedra/zoologia/ or write to me) - we will respond and try to help. The approach to students (especially motivated ones) is individual. The earlier you get in touch with the department, the easier it will be to form an individual curriculum and think about admission (or transfer from another university - all this takes time).
Write and come to SPbGLTA!
