"Diseases and pests in Russian forests: century XXI"

(September 20-24, 2011, Yekaterinburg)

Dear colleague ,
We invite you to take part in the conference on topical issues of forest entomology and forest pathology, which will be held on September 20-24, 2011 in Yekaterinburg on the basis of the Botanical Garden of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Ural State Forestry Engineering University. The conference will also include the Fifth Readings in memory of the outstanding forest entomologist O. A. Kataev.
The purpose of the conference is to exchange views on topical issues of forest entomology and forest diseases, coordinate scientific research, summarize current forest entomological and forest pathology knowledge, and discuss promising research areas in the field of dendrophage insect ecology and forest pathology. The conference will provide a unique opportunity for narrow specialists (phytopathologists and entomologists) to get acquainted with problems in the parallel direction of forest pathology. This will help to find common ground for joint research on the factors and mechanisms of pathological processes in forest ecosystems and their use for effective protection of Russian forests.

MAIN DIRECTIONS OF THE CONFERENCE:

1. Population ecology of dendrophilous insects.
2. Phytopathological processes in natural and anthropogenic dendrocenoses: factors and mechanisms.
3. Regularities of addition and functioning of entomophytopathogenic consortia of woody plants.
4. The role of epiphytoties and outbreaks of mass reproduction of insects in forest biogeocenosis.
5. Monitoring and control of native and invasive phytopathogens and insect pests of woody plants: history, present and prospects.

Please send the form by January 15, 2011. This is absolutely necessary for the formation of applications to scientific and other trust funds for the purpose of financial support of the conference.
A summary of the reports will be published in the proceedings before the conference and distributed to participants during registration. After the conference, articles based on the participants 'reports will be published in special issues of the journals" Izvestiya of the St. Petersburg Forestry Academy " and "Forests of Russia and their Farms", provided that they pass the standard review procedure.
