Encyclopedia of Life (eng. The Encyclopedia of Life (EOL) is an online encyclopedia containing information about all biological species, created jointly by various specialists. In the encyclopedia, you can post separate articles for each known type (there are about 2 million of them), which will contain video materials, sound, images, graphics, and text information.
As part of the project, information about animals, plants, and fungi will first be collected in a single database. Then data on micro-organisms will be added to the catalog, and later-on fossil biological species.
One of the priority tasks of the project is to make the resource accessible to all people regardless of language and cultural differences, for which it is planned to translate the encyclopedia into various languages in cooperation with individuals and organizations around the world.
The project is designed for ten years and is estimated at 110.5 million US pupaars. The first grants were provided by two American organizations: $ 10 million was provided by the MacArthur Foundation, and $ 2.5 million was provided by the Alfred Sloan Foundation.
For more information, see in wikipedia.
An extremely interesting project. In fact, for the first time in the history of mankind, a common database (catalog) is being created for the entire organic world. If someone has already encountered this organization, please tell us how you can participate in this global business? And I would just like to hear your opinion on this.
