Maybe I'm not the first, but I'll venture an idea. rolleyes.gif Maybe we should create our own virtual map? Who lives where ? I think it would be very good to know when traveling to foreign lands which of your fellow soldiers live nearby.Life is unpredictable, and it can help in critical situations.Do you know all your entomologist colleagues in your city?I don't think all tongue.gifof them .In general, I think it will be very convenient! Here I remember there was a topic Who lives where, but if everyone puts a label on the map where they live, we will become much friendlier beer.gif

For example, I lived for many years and was already sure that I was the only entomologist (amateur) in my city, and even in central Kazakhstan! Two years ago, I listed all my detailed coordinates here, and vainly asked here and on other sites for feedback from my brothers in mind in my area...and now, 2 years later, a real entomologist calls me at home and says that he lives in the neighboring district!!! jump.gif now we go hunting together smile.gifand somehow live more fun jump.gif

At one time (about 10 years), a rather large list of entomologists, both amateurs and pros, went around the hands or computers. I've written off a lot of people using it - I'd like to edit it and post it on the site...
And the map will turn out to be large - and the European part of Russia will have to be made separately, so many entomologists live on its territory.

We don't have many entomologists, so don't be too idealistic. in the same Germany, a tenner per village, and we have less for a large city.

Well duc... Where's the map?

The idea is great! But you need to think about the form of implementation. It seems to me that this should be some kind of online service that allows joint placement of placemarks on the map... It seems that in the same Google Maps, this feature was buried somewhere (but it was not immediately found).

As I understand it, they actually offer (although clearly not out of malice) to update an open list that at least one collector has already submitted at least once to environmental structures (or law enforcement agencies) at least one friendly state. And geographical appendices do not change the essence.
m. b., there are other things to do?

in fact, the creation of a community, some kind of club of collectors, entomologists is very important. There are a lot of disconnected people, even now in the era of the Internet. I see with great pleasure that a lot of people appear in different parts of our country. The country is huge and the society, some kind of club is very necessary. A huge function is performed by the forum. Korb gave the idea for the magazine. We also need a society. Not the Russian entomological society, which unites professional specialists, but the society of amateur entomologists of Russia and neighboring countries. Information for everyone about everyone will help everyone.

No one offers to sign with your first and last name without fail. You can just use nicknames, with the area of interest as a characteristic (as it is now on the forum). In my opinion, it is not the list itself that is more important, but the location of entomologists.
And, besides, is the possibility of repeating that precedent excluded now, without any map, by some other actor?

I'm currently being programmed with Google Maps for use on Lepidoptera.ru, so that the points of species found can be placed. If the public has a desire — you can integrate entomologists ' habitat points into the same engine, or, for example, who is going where or where they were (for easy information search: people are going to go somewhere, they can look at who has already been/caught in those places, respectively, you can find out impressions).since the information is quite personal, then when setting up points, you can limit the list of those to whom it will be visible or the composition of data on it (for example, you can immediately give out your full name and contacts to a trusted circle, and only the name or something else to everyone else). Since for points of view, the same possibility (by restricting access) is also available it will be implemented, and it will not be difficult for people to fasten it.
As always — there would be those who would like to put down the dots themselves...

Everything is possible. But we don't need to help the "actors". Of course, if the information about each person goes only from himself (not from the outside), then no matter what; but it's already in the profiles. Anyone who wanted to report something about themselves has already reported it. Including geography, there is such a point. Personally, I (I know that I'm not the only one) have been running a database on my computer for a long time - but not on the Internet or on the fence - a database of participants (according to profiles and other information), it can also be wooled by geography without any Google maps. In my opinion, this is enough, and those who have a lot of time can at least encode all the participants with JEEP coordinates (and I didn't think that I would be the first to offer them...). I only envy them, I don't have enough time to sort them out chronically.

By the way, the location that friends indicate in their profiles can be repeated in the database textually, but it is not always easy to indicate on the map. Okay, I'll still find the " Venus hillock of Russia "(there is also such an address), but the" Milky Way Galaxy " can only be marked on a map on which the entire Google globe disappears from view, like an infinitesimal object. There are other " addresses not thinner than these. So it would be better to offer a form for the address on the profile. You don't have to fill it out, but you can only fill it out using the form, otherwise it is deleted in the parashu. This will be good for you.

To T. Yakovlev. Roma, the fact that information about everyone for everyone will help everyone is great. But what about those who want to use information to the detriment of others? The question for many is not idle, but historically and practically justified. If information helps such a subject (and for him, this means that it will help, even if, among other things, to shit on his neighbor), then it means that it will harm others. God help you with military affairs, with diplomacy, where general formulas about the general benefits of information are not quoted, where they know that information is first of all the strongest weapon in the fight against the enemy. But after all, the current laws, which in some aspects protect our information about ourselves, and those participants of our upcoming congress who specifically ask the congress organizers not to disclose the entire list, so that even the fact of their own presence does not appear on the Internet (!), clearly do not share the optimistic postulate about the general usefulness of knowing everyone about everyone. There are, apparently, more realistic postulates. And if you ignore them, many talented young people can join the old (and already thinning due to natural decline) proscription lists, and then amen to their excursions, and we will see much less beautiful reports.

And I consider the offer of the Society to be extremely valuable. If there are people here who have experience in organizing structures, who know the legal system, and so on. If we do not turn it into a cockroach protection society, i.e., an extra entomolegavka, which is already enough in the world), then the Society should be organized in the first place, because this will provide those who are not covered by the entomological profession with at least some formal reinforcement. Of course, to do this, the charter of the Society should not protect the rights of insects (existing norms will suffice for this, and no one is obliged to rewrite laws, etc.in the charter of the Society), but the interests of entomologists, especially those who cannot count on more "elite" scientific roofs. The charter should be based on the fact that the society unites those who study insects, and not insects, to protect their interests. And it will also be better to publish the magazine not from anyone, but immediately on behalf of the Society. This option solves (at least partially) the inevitable issue of funding the magazine.

In general, there is something to think about and express your opinions - both in principle and in practice.
