Yes, the material has scientific value , but the material collector is not automatically engaged in scientific work. smile.gif

Once, about a year and a half ago, I wrote that "entomology is not waving a net." They even prescribed that the most important thing for the year is stupidity.... But I repeat - most professional entomologists (people who receive a salary for this) do not wave a net. These are physiologists, biochemists, and entomogenetics. And some taxonomists did not come out of the walls of museums. And they don't know how to collect fees. Therefore, collecting material is "collecting material", and science is processing the collected material. Being useful for science means reading a lot, studying well, asking smart questions (which you can't find the answer to yourself), cultivating diligence, entering the biology department, and being bold. And a very important point is a great desire. But it's not enough alone. A cool head and a strong ass are also necessary.

Roman, well, this is pure rhetoric, but not of the best quality and quality.
But I repeat - most professional entomologists (people who receive a salary for this) do not wave a net. These are physiologists, biochemists, and entomogenetics.

First of all. Those "scientists" referred to in the remark ("physiologists, biochemists, and entomogenetics") are not scientists, but self - taught (as applied to the Russian Federation and the USSR, but not only), who have higher education in the field of biology (see: "State Educational Standard for the specialty Biology-510600") implies the ability to "plan, organize and perform expedition work" (I quote the State Tax Service), - but-you are not even an entomogeneticist, but simply a geneticist or physiologist (who "swing a net" – and breaks, and nafig). But, Roman, in another way, will not get a diploma-they will not give you a diploma. And any certified geneticist (and so on...) will remember how he "waved the net" at the summer ("entomological") practice after the first year and mastered the "collection methods".
Secondly. It is not weak to name surnames (I do not ask, even, - "addresses and appearances") those "entomologists" who "didn't wave the net"? I don't believe that there are such people (and there were) in ZIN'e, MSU, in our ISiEZh'e, in DVGU (and so on, and so on). Well, maybe kaneshna, you, in Barn'aul, and there are such... (maybe you have it there vaapshche, - " everything"in a different way...). But this (you-there), probably, as an exception, and not at all as a rule... Palyubom, the expression - "most professional entomologists (people who receive a salary for this) do not wave a net" - is "shnyaga", to put it mildly.
And some taxonomists did not come out of the walls of museums. And they don't know how to collect fees.

Third. Pra "taxonomists who did not leave the walls of museums"… [I'm not even asking: "Did you go in there, vashcheta?" Well, I-not in the physical, but in the metaphysical sense, I believe that they "entered", by the way, they entered, having a biologist's degree "on hand "(see: "First of all")... ] So, the rule of "taxonomists" ... If taxonomy is considered as "philately" (i.e., almost like counting the number of spines, bristles, bumps, pits, etc.), then it is certainly possible "not to leave the museum". But after Mayr (and long before that) so understood taxonomy without ecology (ecology, for example, - I keep silent about others ... for fear of falling into the sin of flood) is not "science", - but "so-so", - philately (great butterflies - in this album, great beetles – in another...). And the study of ecology – I can't resist adding) is" waving a net " (including), and not only with a net, but also with other parts of the body.
Fourth. Roman, and what ... (var.: "fig, rozhna", etc.) then in Mongolia "waving a net", scaring the Oirats? I would sit down ("without leaving") in a museum (MWM, for example), I rewrote a dozen labels, so the" article " is ready about kossid (Zambia, for example), - eh?
Uffff! How many Booksfavalagesfurther reading… And there are also "Fifth-sixth- ... s..." .

"Swing a net" - everywhere" stands " pictures (if you notice). Great helminthologists (et al. etc.) I know it myself - it doesn't change the essence of my line.

objects they study

Vo-vo! I think that someone "did not swing the net either", but in a different" field " - grammatical. Case matching where?

Dima, don't get into a dispute.

There are such people in ISiEZh <...> who are not biologists by training

And I was talking <...> about entomologists

Neither...- to yourself (option: ha - ha-to yourself!). What are they: not biologists, but entomologists? confused.gif You, vapshche, kada pra entomologa speak, then pra whom think (pachestnom!)?

11.08.2011 21:42, Юстус

Dima, don't get into an argument.

Vo-vo!
Moreover, it was about "professional entomologists" (Yakovlev, post # 41).

Am I disfiguring my tongue???
Not matching cases is not "disfiguring"?
Not matching numbers is not "disfiguring"?
For... um-um-um, I repeat that it was about "professional entomologists" (plural). You want to enter a certain last name (singular).
There are only two options: either not mastering the language, or an attempt to deliberately mislead...
