I can't say, but I think it's during our winter months/spring.

Most of Ethiopia has a rainy season from May to September. And a little rain happens in February and March. The rest of the year is very dry and there are almost no butterflies. In October, they still come across, and then very little. There are almost no forests left in Ethiopia. Most of the country is a kind of anthropogenic savanna-like landscape. The species there are mostly very banal-papilio demodocus, nireus, salamis, precis and other crap. But a lot of interesting things come from the night. In the forest, you can also sometimes catch something good.
As far as I understand, the wildest places are in the southwestern part of the country. But there is a vicious population (they say that people from South Sudan live there, naked and with machine guns) and there is a lot of malaria.
In Ethiopia, "restaurants" have delicious beer, good Ethiopian gin and cheap delicious food (although there is a very small selection and you need to get used to it). Also, the first 2-3 days are very difficult to eat anything there because of unsanitary conditions. But you can also get used to it.
The country is very crowded. There's nowhere to hide from people. But a significant part of the population is very beautiful girls (and very annoying, they run screaming for a kilometer if they see them).

Yeah, sort of) But fortunately, I didn't see them, I was only in the central part of the country.

If we talk about Africa for the purpose of collecting insects at night (traveling by rented car) What country would you recommend in terms of balance of untouched forests and safety?

I can't recommend anything, as I haven't been anywhere in Africa except Ethiopia.

Thank you very much) I wonder if anyone from the forum has ever been to Ghana or Cameroon? If you compare these two countries, which one can be called a" dark horse"?

I don't recognize my rear guard! What does "dark horse" mean? Entomological Special Forces have no restricted areas. Orders from the vocation are not discussed. If we need to take Somalia,
we'll go there as well.

Here for example is the report on the expedition to Cameroon by Vasily Grebennikov

And more info from there

I really enjoyed Zimbabwe and Malawi. True, in Malawi, you will get a horseradish visa. Mozambique is terrible - there is no nature, the people are dangerous. South Africa-great! They say that in terms of nature, Zambia is very good. I totally agree with Proctos about Namibia and South Africa. In addition, our comrades were in Ghana - they brought very good material. I don't know any information about Cameroon. Although the north of Africa is not Africa, but the guys went to Atlas for the second time and were satisfied. I think Yu is interesting. Egypt and South Africa Algeria - but some people don't go there. The Sahel is very dangerous-Niger, Chad, Mauritania, Central African Republic, Mali-all this is not praised. But the material from there, I'm sure, would be terribly interesting. I wanted to go to Cornacry, Guinea , but when I found out that renting a car costs $ 700, I decided to cancel. I saw incredibly interesting material from Volodya Gurko from Yu. Sudan-described 4 species and 1 genus from there.
