Leptoglossus occidentalis was found in Italy 12 years ago and during this time has spread almost all over Europe - from Norway to Sicily and from Great Britain to Moldova. In 2010-12, it was found in Ukraine (Simferopol, Dneprorudnoye) and in Russia (Rostov-on-Don). The author of the article attached below, based on an analysis of the distribution of this species in North America and Europe, as well as data on the sum of the effective temperatures required for its preimaginal development, concludes that this species will not be able to spread in the European part of Russia beyond the northern border of the forest-steppe zone. I would like to test this hypothesis. Therefore, a big request to all entomologists from Ukraine, from the European part of Russia (as well as from the Far East – see the article) is to pay attention to large kraeviki (Coreidae), sitting on pines, firs and other conifers, and also able to now, in the fall, climb into the houses for the winter. Much information about the distribution of this species in a number of European countries was obtained in a similar way - thanks to illustrated reports on amateur websites.
Photos of adults, second-and fifth-instar larvae, and Leptoglossus occidentalis egg laying are shown below.
