Dear colleague,

The Department of Biological Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Scientific Council for the Study, Protection and Rational Use of Wildlife of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the A. N. Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences will organize in the third decade of August 2013. XIV All-Russian Myrmecological Symposium "Ants and Forest protection"

Topic of the symposium: Development of biosociality in insects. Mechanisms of organization and structure of ant communities. Phenology and annual life cycles of an anthill. Coenotic relationships and the role of ants in ecosystems. Fauna, population, and landscape distribution of ants. Monitoring of ant settlements. Ants in environmental monitoring of the environment. Morphology and taxonomy of ants. Anatomy and physiology of ants. Genetics and biochemistry of ants. Communication and behavior of ants. Ant conservation and anthropogenic pressure. Ants in environmental education and enlightenment. Methods of studying and using ants.
The symposium will be organized at the Severtsov Institute of Ecology and Evolution of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IPEE RAS). The text of the message and the participant's questionnaire should be sent in electronic form by April 05, 2013 to the following address: fourmis@yandex.ru to the Organizing Committee. The registration fee is 600 rubles, for undergraduates and postgraduates-300 rubles (when submitting 2 messages, 700 and 400 rubles, respectively). The form and terms of payment, as well as information about accommodation for nonresident participants, will be provided in the second information letter.

Rules for submitting and processing materials:
The publication volume is up to 4 typewritten A4 pages, including figures, tables, references, and Summary. The Organizing Committee asks you to strictly adhere to the following rules:
Materials for publication must be submitted as a Microsoft Word 97-03 text file attached to the email with the DOC or RTF extension (without archiving). Font-Times New Roman, size 12. Single line spacing. Margins: top and bottom 2.5 cm, left 3 cm, right 1.5 cm.

First line: report title (no more than 10 words) - uppercase, bold letters, body, center alignment. Second line: last name(s) and initials of the author (s) – lowercase letters, case, center alignment. Third line: organization name, city, email address-italics, lowercase letters, center alignment.

This is followed by a single-spaced indent and the main text of the post. Paragraphs in the text begin with an indent of 1 cm (the indent is set in the "paragraph format", please do not use spaces). Text width alignment, no hyphenation. Generic and specific Latin names are shown in italics, without specifying the author and year of description. Literary references in parentheses in chronological order, for example: (Ivanov, 1968; Gray, 1972; Petrov, 1991). All abbreviations must be transcribed in the text. Decimal places in numbers are separated by a comma. Formulas are typed in the built-in Microsoft Equation editor. Monochrome drawings in *.tif format with a resolution of 300 dpi and no additional processing are accepted. Figures and tables should be numbered and signed. A list of references and a Summary are provided at the end of the text.

Registration of the list of references: full name, year. Title of the article / / title of the journal or collection. Tom. Number. Pages separated by hyphens. Examples:
(Russian-language article): Radchenko A. G., 1994. Taxonomic structure of the genus Myrmica of Eurasia // Zool. zhurnal, vol. 73, no. 6, pp. 39-51

In Summary, the title is formatted in the same way as in Russian, without an email address. Summary should reflect the essence of the article, methods and research results.

Each participant can be an author (co-author) of no more than two publications.

The Organizing Committee reserves the right to edit the text of publications. Messages that do not correspond to the topic of the Symposium or are incorrectly designed will be rejected. The Organizing Committee will inform you about the acceptance of the publication in the next information letter. Published messages and the program will be presented to participants at the opening of the Symposium.
