Ilya Osipov announced the sad news:
"Alexey A. Klimenko (17.01.1970-23.06.2017)
I don't want to say banal words, but Russian entomology has suffered a heavy loss.
Alexey Klimenko has died. He was only 47 years old.
He was my friend and business partner at Russian insects for almost 30 years.
Alexey was a talented entomologist, an encyclopedic scholar. Insects, and most of all beetles, were the love of his life. Alexey was an excellent taxonomist. Identifying insects for him was not just a job, but a great pleasure. They discovered new species of beetles for science, and wrote many articles. According to his collections, other scientists have described more than a dozen new species of insects. Unfortunately, Alexey did not have time to finish the work of his life - the monograph of the Khrushchei from the tribe Melolonthinae. Several new taxa of this group were not described.
Expeditions were Alexey's passion. He traveled all over Central Asia within the former USSR.
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Alexey visited many countries in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. His last expeditions to Borneo and the islands of Indonesia were incredibly successful.
My last trip was to Thailand. The difficult expedition conditions worsened his health.
On June 23, Alexey died of a heart attack far from his native home, in Thailand.
Alexey's death is one of those losses that cannot be replaced.
We will remember Alexey as an incredibly kind and decent person, completely devoted to science and sincerely loving nature.
