I agree, keeping them is not easy. I had 15-16 caudates hatched in 2012, 8 survived. I kept them all together first in the aquarium, then in a mesh cage.
In 2013, all of them (then there were 7 pieces) lived separately until the last molt on imago.

Decticus, my last grey that year, also died at the end of November. It's just a pity that none of the November decticuses survived. they all took a break without ever shedding. Probably because of poor-quality soil, fungi of all kinds, or maybe the sun was not enough. I grew up Kantov on sawdust, though not all of them took root either. Now I have 2 imagos and one on the 3rd molt.

Nikita, the grays have 7 ages.
Instead of a cover, it is better to pull a tulle or nakraynyak mosquito net. I fixed the mosquito net between the plastic corners with a stapler and sealant, all this I use as an aquarium cover.
I don't recommend keeping multiple types at once, even if your container is large. As a primer, I use sawdust or dry leaves, I advise you to throw sticks and put a cup with a bouquet of clover and dandelion leaves. In such conditions, Viridissima lived with me from July to mid-February.

In the Volkhov region, I remember (mid-noughties) the first one started singing at the end of June, it was the same color, but sooo large. Only he sang. And after about two weeks, the rest, the first bright green large phases, began. They dislodged it and it quickly disappeared.

Crickets do the same - the predimago is black, and the imago is pale and snotty. And the food is the same and the conditions are the same. Apparently the pigmentation changes with age. Many fish do the same, with the same color of the bottom and feed.

Cut the canister, pour the soil, covering with a large tulle, only the frame of thin sticks with a willow or alder.. But this method is ideally suited for older individuals. Small things can leak into the holes - then we put a small cloth. The truth is that it passes oxygen worse.. I kept them in these old things with broken dried suckers, dying specimens taken from the dead of autumn. Old clothes, on the other hand, do not slip or fall, as in glass and plastic, but cling freely to the silky flared fabric! In the past year, they were kept in these pens until almost December. There is one in the photo above, I caught it in October. But I was very ill in December, and I went to the hospital with a serious injury - I had to "leave" them, so they died without my supervision.... So the cages are still gathering dust together with the dead ones.
