Catocala fraxini. From eggs

Community and ForumInsects breedingCatocala fraxini. From eggs

Tell me what is known about the breeding of catocala fraxini.
1. How and where is the best place to place eggs (on leaves, on the ground, on paper, in bark cracks)? Humidity should be high?
2. Forage plants-poplar, ash, elm, maple? Any specific types of poplar, for example?
3. Timing of caterpillar emergence (Central Ukraine)? As well as pupation and breeding of butterflies.
4. How and where it pupates. There was information - "between the leaves" and "on the ground". Does the caterpillar need space before pupation (to runsmile.gif)?
Thank You

I didn't have anything to do with Fraxini. I talked to Nupta. And on its example, I can answer that it pupates in a glass jar. "space" it does not need, it will perfectly cut a couple of kilometers in a circle))) skoki povleniya caterpillars, I think, correlate with the timing of removing eggs from the refrigerator. good luck! I would love to buy fresh eggs of this type for money.

thanks for the reply.
there is a problem with the refrigerator - I just have them on the loggia (since I bought them at the Czech exhibition and stayed in the Czech Republic for a long time, there was no refrigerator in the hotel and I didn't put them in the refrigerator at home either).
And in nature, when is it supposed to be? Otherwise, I'll be leaving again soon...
You can probably buy it from the people I bought it from. I can send them to their email address.

Good health, colleagues!
Catocal eggs are best wintered at -5C and light humidity. The best way is to tighten the film box with a piece of napkin on which the eggs are placed, tighten it with nylon and place it in a plastic container with ventilation in the lid in which to put wet (but not wet) moss-sphagnum. Current immediately in the freezer do not stick. Weeks and a half at 0+4C and when you will get the same. It winters perfectly. Shaw didn't notice much difficulty with the tracks. I did not mate, but in the literature they write sho can be found in spacious mesh cages. Imago feeds, we must not forget this...
By the way, I'm also interested in the Catocal culture...Any of them. Collect points easily if the female caught...Or if you have an email, please let us know.
But to throw grena-to risk really. Because it's already spring in the yard....It is best to leave it in a ventilated box and place it in a hole in the ground where the snow lies longest. Current shob is not flooded if thaw pochnet.....
