Hello, I originally bought maggots to feed the praying mantis. He didn't eat much, and the maggots began to form into cocoons. A week ago, the praying mantis left this world, and the maggots, cocoons and flies that began to hatch the day before his death, remained, there is no one to feed them, it's a pity to throw them away. The city of Zelenograd, to whom it is necessary - I will give it for free. The number of flies is not a lot of course, but 50 pieces and as many more on the way.

I wrote, first there was a praying mantis, 2 ground beetles and a bunch of grasshoppers in the form of mantis food(updated every few days), photos of the praying mantis - you can see the topic "Is it difficult to keep mantises?" page 9-10. Therefore, the terrarium needed a large one, and now it so happened that the maggot pupae turned out to be both large and small.

I was surprised at where they could have come from, since everything is clean, and the point has the shape of an inkwell-neprolivashki…
Over the course of several days, after their futile efforts, I began to notice segmented reddish-brown barrels that rolled slightly to the side and began to appear one after another, which later took on a chocolate color. There was a small hole at one end.
When they were all completely dark, I gathered them up, put them in a matchbox that was slightly open, sprinkled them lightly with warm water, and stuck them under the ceiling in a warm twilight room.
Yesterday I noticed a sluggishly flying fly, and found that one of the 10 barrels was empty – - Moreover, it was broken into two parts in the area of two-thirds. So, the hole was needed for breathing? – So it turns out?
It is interesting that during the previous week, before the first fly hatched, the light in this room was not turned on, and it was not heated.
The fly is bored, waiting for something. Here is such an unknown element, so…
