Community and Forum → Website news and updates → Recognition of species/taxa by file names of uploaded photos has become more convenient

When uploading photos to the website (both by one file and many files in the zip-archives), the system tries to recognize the species in the photo (as well as subspecies and upper taxa) by file name. Previously, the system was quite demanding, now it is much easier to work with it. I have studied what mistakes that users most often make in file names and added automatic handling of such cases. Now you can upload files with two or more spaces in the names in a row, files where hyphens are used between words instead of spaces (as in "Save for Web" in Photoshop), subspecies and supraspecific taxa are used in recognition, not just species. In addition, there is a search for synonyms. But the search for English names does not work when uploading photos, so it should still be called in Latin. As a result, it is now possible to upload not only papilio machaon.jpg, but also papilio-machaon.jpg, papilio.jpg. Thestor nogelii syriaca-splendens.jpg and polygonia c-album.jpg will also be recognized correctly. This is not so important for uploading one photo, but for uploading a large number, it saves time significantly. For more information about the recognition system, see the photo upload page.
