In the middle of the month, I spent a few days in Slovenia on business. Because of the busy schedule, full-fledged fishing was out of the question, but for a while it was possible to get out into nature, and she hadn't really woken up yet.
I didn't catch any nocturnal fish.

I will be grateful for the definition of non-butterflies.

Xanthogramma pedissequum (Harris, 1776), or a similar species, X. stackelbergi Violovitsh, 1975, male, is located between the ktyr and the Italian bug...

Hey guys ,
Just arrive at home - was in SW Bulgaria , Kresna Gorge for 2 nights (bad weather) , perhaps this is the most important Lepidoptera place , as well in general many interesting creatures lives there. Sorely nothing really interesting came into my traps , only 2 Omphalophana anatolica , Zethes insularis a few Hadena ( mgnolii , bicolorata , silenes and perhaps one filograna ) .. And again sorely , when some Saturnia pyri ( or Hyles sp. ) enter the trap , it start "cooking " perfect borscht with the rest of the moths wall.gif
Here some pics ( don't pay attention of the мелоч just really hate going home with empty boxes.

Again in Kresna gorge - 06-08.05.2011. My first idea was to sleep in the Stara Kresna railway station - it is located in the middle of the Kresna gorge , the only access to that station is the hanging rope bridge ... sorely as soon as the bus leave me I realized that the bridge was blown away from the last December flood of Struma River , that as well destroy the highway to Greece ( see picture with cursor ) . My only solution was hitch-hiking ( remember how it was 15 years ago )..and I "landed" at Peyo Yavorov railway station again.

Well , almost the same species of Lepidoptera , just this time came an Rethera komarovi - first for this year as well some more Hadena has visit my traps , as well my first for the year Methorasa latreillei. I had a competition at lamp this time - a few gecko's Gymnodactylus kotschyi wink.gif . During the day not much interesting Rhopalocera , one Pieris kruperi ( saw only 2 ) . In the meadow saw an amazing snake , and my very favorite as temper - Elaphe quatourlineata quatourlineta - hunting for birds and nests ( few meters away saw an Miliaria ( Emberiza ) calandra and it's nest hidden in the grass ). About 20 years ago we watched another snake of the same species that climbed 10 meters of indoor wall corner to reach the nests of Passer domesticus and Delichon urbica . In this report I add an picture of pupa - it was in the Anchusa sp. raceme , if someone can recognize it , please contact me[i]. I really hope that this might be Janthinea fiwalskii- this amazing noctuid used to be collected rarely on Anchusa.

One day excursion to the Tchepan Mts. , near Dragoman town - not far from Sofia ( 55 min by train ) . It is a very small hill like steppe mountain , place where last year’s many interesting discoveries have been made , esp. Lepidopterological. At the foot of the mountain is the famous Dragoman marsh – it is hard to believe that 50 + years ago it was a nesting place of the crane ! Then in the 50’s the mars was destroyed with draining channels. It was a catastrophe for all the plants and animals living there, all interesting creatures disappear and some like the the insectivore plant Aldrovanda vesiculosa extinct ( now recovered with plants from Romania ).
My purpose was the small Geometrid moth Narraga tessularia , I have found lots of them flying around + some other interesting creatures : Hepialus lupulinus , Polyommatus eroides ( not pictured ) and one female of Pentophera morio . In fact the last one I found following one of the males flying around , so they copulate even on my finger ! Rest of the pictures are just to have an impression of Nature there . Enjoy !!!

SW Bulgaria , Belasitza Mts. from 01.06 - 03.06 , Kongor Hut 1300 m - the place I sleep ( an ex border kazarma ) and the subalpine zone of the mountain up to Kongor Peak 1951m. The purpose of my visit was Anarta cordigera - I collected it exactly 11 years ago , 20 meters from border with Greece , no net - I caught it with my arms , that's why it looks like pup and it is not in my collection.. Since then I use to visit this place hoping to find it again , sorely no luck - bad weather , clouds and few minutes of sun from time to time. Any way , lots of interesting insects can be found there , esp. the "face" of Belasitza Mts. - Dorcadion borisi - the only high mountain species we have , extremely local . Enjoy the pics :

Very short report - for 2 days in SW Bulgaria , visiting parents , did not take my ultraviolet traps because of the full moon , collecting during the day and sugaring in the river. I guess I late too much for the Apaustis rupicola - all specimens I found were totally old , I take only one. At the sugaring - very fresh Mormo maura and few I think Schrankia , but I am not sure..does any one can say if the pictured Acontia sp. is titania ??? Thanks !

I was in Bulgaria in the vicinity of Varna (and then all Turkey and Turkeysmile.gif). 17.06-02.07.2011 The area is quite good, deciduous, sometimes pine forest with an abundance of clearings, gradually turning into a forest-steppe.Once I accidentally went to a local nature reserve and fished there all day, and when I left, I noticed a sign that this is the territory of the national park. But I didn't seem to run into it, although theoretically I could. The weather wasn't bad either. I fished mostly during the day and set soil traps for beetles, with night fishing almost did not work out, but I caught a few interesting things, such as Marumba quercus. From the beetles, I caught a couple of interesting barbel species-Morimus funereus and Cerambyx cerdo, as well as bronzes and carabids. Well, every little thing. I'm going to wind up in Kharkiv, so there's no time to sort it out yet. When I get there, I'll report back in more detail. Overall, the impression is pleasant.

Thirty kilometers from Budapest, on a forest road, I gathered a few motes in the headlights. It will be necessary to cook on the subject of E. christyi.

muddy group. and I am sure that the distribution of species of this genus is much larger than they write. it's just that no one really deals with them "autumn=autumnata" and that's it!

As soon as I arrived in London today (I wasn't going to catch it at all), the freshest Scoliopteryx libatrix popped up through the window. I even took it.

I managed to spend two days fishing on a karst in Slovenia...

Cool robin on the shingle! On the blue flower is a female babbler Episyrphus balteatus, the males starved to death in the fall, and the females, who prefer pollen rather than nectar, thrive... Oleg, I got the hint (judging by the last photo)!
