Then lampra: and how did the synodendron get caught?

I saw him in a rotten birch tree, he was sitting in a hole, I pulled him out with tweezers, there were no others.

Just this birch is visible in the penultimate photo ( on the left).

While Moscow was trying to break the record for snow cover in early February, I went to Berlin, and, to my great surprise, I found there as many as two species of butterflies, one of which is not even wintering. These are Agriopis leucophaearia and Phigalia pilosaria. All the butterflies were photographed on February 2 near the S-Bahn station Rahnsdorf:

In general, the weather was quite warm, in the range of 0-10 degrees, I saw snow only in the form of dirty piles and once in the morning of the coldest day, when it melted for several hours. The photo below shows a cloud that brought a strong wind with a downpour, which soaked all my outerwear in 20 seconds:

Hello everyone Recently, we went with our family to relax on the island of Tenerife. There's spring in full swing, blooming plants, juicy green grass and all that stuff. Although the water is not very warm for swimming yet - you can swim in the ocean, but not for long. Although the island is powerfully developed by man and civilization is observed around, the islands of nature have been preserved. In the north of the island there are unique ancient laurel forests-laurisilva, and in the south the Teno National Park, where gorges covered with vegetation descend to the ocean. And of course, the unusual nature of the island's largest volcano, Teide, surrounded by a huge caldera, is impressive. As you may have guessed, the island is home to various endemic insects. The time spent on the island was enough to climb a little in the most interesting places, because I had information about points from friends who had already visited theresmile.gif
Managed to meet:
Vanessa vulcania (Godart, 1819)
Danaus plexippus (Linnaeus, 1758) - Monarch-not at all endemicsmile.gif, but beautiful
Pararge xiphioides (Staudinger, 1871)
Euchloe eversi (Stamm, 1963),
and among the beetles Pimelia ascendens (Wollaston, 1864) - endemic to the Teide volcano and a couple of other black-bodied beetles.

We juts came back from a 3 day collecting trip in F.Y.R. of Macedonia - our target were 2 species : Desertobia ankeraria (Staudinger, 1861) and Archiearis puella mediteranea ( Ganev, 1983) - both not recorded in Macedonia before - we found them both. The last day we have collected 2 males of Archiearis notha, wich seems to be our 3 species new for Macedonia. Until the paper is ready/published I will keep all the data for these 3 species away.
Our first night was near Demir Kapija - very interesting place, hills covered with Quercus coccifera, vultures above us, Vardar river near by, where we have collected on wine traps Litophane ledereri. Lots of them in fact wink.gif !
Our second night was above Gorna Matka village, just betwen the capital Scopje and the Treska Matka gorge. Here some pictures from our trip ( pics from 01 to 06 - Demir Kapija, rest Treska Matka ) :

A small sketch of a trip to Rhodes in August 2010. The trip was a tourist one, but I also wanted to help out. However, over time, the blunder came out very large-everything was burned out , and many orthopteroids had already moved away (including Saga rhodiensis) or were still in the process of development, as, for example, Eyprepocnemis plorans, Iris oratoria, Mantis religiosa and most grasshoppers. As a result, the trip turned out to be one of the poorest in terms of fees. But we still managed to see and catch some interesting things, both in Rhodes and in Tilos, where we went for one day.

This was the landscape almost everywhere on the island - with free-range goats, quite aggressive.

My favorite activity on the beach was fishing for blue Sphingonotus sp. and Oedipoda ?charpentieri, surprisingly disguised as pebbles.

The most vivid experience, without a doubt, was a trip to the Valley of Butterflies, where huge masses of the local subspecies of the hera bear-Euplagia quadripunctaria rhodosensis - gather. The concentration, as I understand it, depends on seasonal climate fluctuations and the number/migration of bats.

The park was simply crowded with people (like in 2011 it was even supposed to be closed for a four-year restoration). It was almost impossible to catch. Nevertheless, we managed to find a secluded place in the form of a tunnel under the bridge, where 5 specimens of the bear and a certain Catocala were barbarically caught.

There were also poor collections of butterflies, erect wings and dragonflies. There were no beetles, as far as I remember.

Tilos turned out to be a very cozy, but even more desolate island. Of interest were, in fact, only the villages themselves, which are very beautiful, and the museum of extinct dwarf elephants in the "capital" (where almost no photos could be taken due to lighting).

Something I'm all about the Urals and the Urals. The weather this spring in the Urals is terrible. So I'd rather write about Crete. Been there with my family for the last 10 days. Oh, super vacation, just a dream. And so that the topic of rest, which is not in the topic here, quickly close a couple of photos. I recommend it to everyone, Fodele is a wonderful place!

DSC_0670.JPG
DSC_1434.JPG
DSC_2727.JPG

There were no special plans to catch, but just in case I took a folding Czech net 30 cm the smallest and a bag with packages. And not for nothing, as it turned out. Of course, nothing super exclusive, since there is no such thing there, but everything that could be done, it was all achieved with blood and sweat)).
Of course, there are not enough butterflies there. But there is something.
The first outing is a branch trip, a hike to the village of Fodele from the sea. Just as I was leaving the hotel, I ran into Chrysippus. Super I thought. And during the two-hour hike, I didn't meet another one. There were a few numerical Colias crocea, Thymelicusy, Polyommatus type icarus, later I will post a photo, Lycaena phlaeas, Pieris, admirals and burdocks, local species of Maniola in general, the standard set stood out except that the dark knight, which was not given to me in Turkey Charaxes jasius-they were worn so that I immediately realized-with 30 cm a net without a long handle is definitely not going to work for me in this area. The hotel also had Lampides boeticus and a tongue fluttered over the flowers.
CSC_3219.JPG
picture: CSC_3343.JPG
DSC_1059.JPG

In the end, I was annoyed with Chrysippus, and the next day I sat down by the stream at the exit of the hotel in the same place to wait. I didn't wait long. Chrysippus fluttered here every 15-20 minutes, though there weren't many of them. It is worth noting that apart from this place, I did not meet them anywhere else, and they all looked very fresh.

DSC_1936.JPG

My next trip was by car. I went to the mountains near the village of Aloides, which was not so far away. There I was hoping to find the remains of Alancastria cretica, which has been isolated as a separate species endemic to Crete.

DSC_2956.JPG
DSC_2966.JPG

First I poked around the mountains, where only Colias crocea and Hipparchia flew, which were very difficult to catch under the deafening bleating of the ubiquitous Cretan goats. I caught a couple, I really hope that this is another endemic of H. cretica.

Then I plunged into a mountain village, there was quite a lush green vegetation and I immediately experienced deja vu with the places where I caught Aloncastria ceresi 5 years ago. Several stops failed to produce results, and Aricia agestis and Gonepteryx cleopatra were added to what was previously seen in Fodele. And now, passing a small stream, she did appear. I slowed down a little further and started walking around the area. 10 minutes and I found myself on a small path between fields along a dried-up stream, along the edges of which some flowering bushes grew abundantly 2-3 meters high. From these bushes, Alancastria soared down at me. A female, already quite flown, but still it was her. The trip was a success!!!
DSC_2971.JPG
DSC_2995.JPG
DSC_2979.JPG

There was 1 day left and I decided on another trip. This time I went to the mountains for Fodele on foot. There was enough time for 10 km, I climbed high. From the very beginning, the battle with Charaxes jasius began. I tried to search for places near streams, puddles, tried to attack these knights on the fly - all to no avail. Then I realized that I was interested in fruit, mostly rotten. Somewhere along the way, I finally managed to catch one of them sitting on an orange tree. He was eating a rotten orange)) The tree hung over a cliff and was enclosed by a wire fence. Not to say that straight into the cliff, rather into the pit. It's a pity that there was no one to film my ballet step. I bent as far as I could, stretching out like a swallow. A strong swing. Got it!!! the flutter of big wings in a small net. Luck smiled. Take a picture, alas, close failed, nimble hurt.
DSC_3059.JPG
DSC_3074.JPG
DSC_3057.JPG

After climbing the mountains, I found Coenonympha thyrsis , the third endemic of Crete, and there were a lot of them here.
DSC_1965.JPG

Well, closer to the peaks, I ran into a thicket of trees near the road in which all the same Charaxes jasius were resting. One of them was very fresh and gave me as much as 3 chances!! his slightly more experienced partner gave 2 attempts. I ended up coming down from the mountains with 3 individuals. And on the way back to the village, quite unexpectedly, another female Aloncastira cretica appeared in front of me, this time quite fresh, which for me will remain the winner in the category "Lightning reaction to Cheers".

10 days - 3 endemics. A lot of impressions for the whole year. Here is such a vacation came out.

A short report on your trip to Italy from 1.06 to 10.06.2013.
I decided to visit 2 points, the first 3 days Vall Chisone ridge
and 8 days Vall Sessera. The target of Carabus cychroides unfortunately did not find it, but I found much more, it was cold and a lot of snow ( day and night 3-5 degrees).
On the second day of my stay, I decided to climb Albergian Mountain, the climb was very difficult 5 hours, the higher the climb, the fewer beetles, spring flowers bloom everywhere, as if I arrived on May 1.

I recently returned from Croatia, where I was on vacation with my family. He didn't catch the light at night, but during the day he periodically made forays into mountain forests. Here's what I managed to collect. The deer flew en masse, I didn't take them. Tell me who knows goldfinches and weevils. And I don't know what Cerambux is yet.

I don't collect butterflies, but I took this one, now they are drying ( the wings are slightly lowered ).

SW BUULGARIA, Volcanic Hill Kozuch, 22.11.2013 - unique place - last 2 new Noctuidae for our fauna were collected there. The most interesting species for the night was Asteroscopus syriaca (Warren, 1910)

It was made by tent Denis, the original construction belong to a friend from Finland. I just found second hand tent, strong enough fabric and a taylor who made it for me for free :-)
if you buy it from the shops it will cost you 120 - 150 Euro, mine was 40 euro + 2 liters brandy wink.gif tongue.gif
In the center of the tent there is a bucket with a lid and a lamp, so all insects fall down smile.gif

I went for a walk in the park:

Crayfish (next to slugs) in my opinion from the family Ligiidae. In the Crimea on the seaside rocks met funny, nimble and big-eyed Ligia italica.
