That's it for me. I hope I didn't get too tormented by the abundance of photos.

I was surprised by several points. First of all, quite a few butterflies were caught, I thought there would be more. True, I was traveling without lighting equipment (by the way, the question is, if someone goes with their own light for night fishing/shooting - how to transport it on the plane, does it raise unnecessary questions during baggage inspection?), and the lighting in the hotel, in Bako turned out to be very poor,on the AWL-ku would fly, Much more active, I think.
Secondly, I was struck by the abundance of erect-winged larvae. It's not entirely clear if this is how I got there and, say, in August there would have been more adults, or just so lucky (unlucky)...
There are a lot of stick insects in Bako compared to the hotel (there are only 3 types in the hotel, the rest are from Bako), although both places are located about 40 km away from each other (neighboring peninsulas), both on the seashore, vegetation and climate are the same.

In April of this year, he conducted an expedition for entomologists on the island of Siberut near Sumatra. A very interesting region in terms of zoogeography. There were not many insects, but the guys made some very interesting finds on both butterflies and beetles. The living conditions were very ascetic, we lived with the locals in the village and in the forest in a house with pigs))

There's not much to eat, either. Here, for example, such a device for the extraction of sago says a lot.

picture: DSC_4125.jpg

So they ate sago and did entomophagy (palm weevil larvae).

picture: RTZIC1og0hY.jpg

House in the forest: pigs live below, people live above. The smell is gorgeous!!!

There were not many butterflies, but there were: sailboats, nymphalids, whiteflies and of course pigeons. This Eooxylides tharis is endemic to Sundaland.

Barbel Bandar.

picture: 49edeEcbX2g.jpg

Cockroach Panesthia.

picture: 0GTb547eLmw.jpg

At night, the age was average or weak, but there were a few interesting things. There were also Mentawai endemics.

picture: YTJogeWx5g4.jpg

Mentawai is quite a complex region. Not as difficult as it sounds, but still... In terms of logistics, everything is now more or less accessible. But there are many subtleties in place, ranging from relationships with local people, ending with the lack of English. But we didn't have much problems, as Indonesian is my second language after Russian.

We spent August crawling through the Chinese mountains, enjoying the views and relaxing our souls. Small fees were a nice addition)

Locations: Sichuan, Shaanxi, Yunnan.

A couple of landscapes and part of what was collected/met on the way. In addition, we saw many cerambycidae, tenebrionidae, various crunches and coprophages, as well as blattodea.

P.S.: if someone recognizes cicadas/carabids, I will be grateful)

Dear forumchane! Very interested in whether anyone has visited Hainan in the recent past? And how do they feel about catching insects, especially in the light? I understand that all this is officially prohibited, but is it possible to arrange, say, with the hotel administration, to put a lamp on?
There are a lot of our tourists flying there, there are charter flights from the cities of Siberia and the Far East, but there is almost no information about insect collections.

Try to make an appointment with the hotel administration in advance - call them...
Knowledgeable people say that this kind of training (at least from the very first time) truly guarantees a prison; the hotel administration and local cops are often in a mutual relationship of mutual assistance. So, if you really need a place, you will most likely have to go at random once, without great plans, without cool technologies (at the level of a maximum of an extra two hundred watts in a state-owned chandelier), look around (yourself!) and without ringing about their tasks. Once again, going to look around is cheaper than then steaming for a long time and hard to get out of it.
