Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species
- The top of the wings is black and brown. The rust-brown band on the forewings of the male is indistinct, while the female is noticeably wider and lighter. The band on the hind wings is three or four separate rust-red spots. Ocular spots, some of which have light cores, are always present on the forewings of pronoi, and on the hind wings they may sometimes be absent. The underside of the forewings is rust-brown, with a light band, the underside of the hindwings bears a purple-gray marble pattern and a dark brown median band. [85].

- The color of the caterpillar is dirty-reddish-yellow. The body of the larvae of Erebia pronoe is covered with yellowish hairs with black tips, and a black line runs along the back. Head-dirty, brown, with many dark dots. During the day, the caterpillars hide, but active nutrition is deployed only at night. [85].
