MATERIALS ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF THE GENUS CARABUS LINNÉ, 1758 (COLEOPTERA, CARABIDAE) IN THE SARATOV REGION

A. S. Sazhnev

Saratov State Agrarian University named after N. I. Vavilov

on the rights of the manuscript

The classification was adopted according to B. Brezina (2004), taking into account the works of O. L. Kryzhanovsky, K. V. Makarov and co-authors (Kryzhanovsky, 1983; Kryzhanovskiy et. al., 1995; Makarov et al., 2007) and B. Lassele (2008). Synonymy is given by O. L. Kryzhanovskiy (Kryzhanovskiy et. al., 1995), V. G. Shilenkov (1996), B. Brezina (2004), and B. Lassele (2008).

Genus Carabus Linné, 1758
Typical view: granulatus Linné, 1758

Subgenus Carabus s. str.

[Carabus (s. str.) arcensis ssp. arcensis Herbst, 1784]
= arvensis Paykull, 1790; iss of arcensis Herbst, 1784
was previously considered as a possible species for the region (Sazhnev, 2007). The nominative subspecies is widely known on the territory of European Russia (Kryzhanovskij et al., 1995; Brezina, 2004), but its distribution relative to the Saratov region is not entirely clear; it is possible that the subspecies will be found in the north-west of the region

1. Carabus (s. str.) arcensis ssp. baschkiricus Breuning, 1936
Material: Saratov, 16. VI. 2008 (1) I. A. Zabaluev.
In Russia, the subspecies is distributed in the European part, mainly in the Volga region (Kryzhanovskij et al., 1995). From the region, the subspecies is known so far from one specimen from the vicinity of Saratov. It is found in various types of forests.

2. Carabus (s. str.) granulatus ssp. granulatus Linné, 1758
Material: Tatishchevsky district, Oktyabrsky Gorodok village, 18. V. 1896 (Sakharov, 1903: "Idolga River"); Tatishchevsky district, Vyazovka village, park, pod kamen, 2. VI. 1981 (1 female) O. A. Garanin (SOMK), ibid., 3.VI.1982 (1 male) O. A. Garanin (SOMK); Rtishchevsky district, Klyuchi village, "Makarovsky zakaznik", V. 1995 (3 specimens) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007); Voskresensky district, Usovka Village, 2004 (1 specimen) A. A. Kupriyanov (Sazhnev, 2007); Rtishchevsky district, Klyuchi village, "Makarovsky zapovednik", soil traps, 18. VI. 2007 (2 females, 1 male) I. V. Kryukov; Saratov region, collections of SSAU, 2007 (3 copies); Rtishchevsky district, Klyuchi village, "Makarovsky Zapovednik", 26-28. VI. 2008 (2 males) I. V. Kryukov, A. S. Sazhnev.
In the Saratov region, it is recorded only on the Right bank, however, the presence of the species in the Trans-Volga region is very likely in the north of the region.
It inhabits coastal habitats or moist floodplain forests and meadows with dense vegetation, occurs under river sediments in coastal talniki (Sakharov, 1903), in the south of the Volgograd region it is recorded in reed thickets along the banks of water bodies (Kalyuzhnaya et al., 2000).

3. Carabus (s. str.) stscheglowi Mannerheim, 1827
Material: Tatishchevsky district, Vyazovka village, on the litter as C. arvensis, 2. VI. 1977 (1 male) O. A. Garanin (SOMK), in the same place as C. arvensis, 17. VI. 1982 (1 male) O. A. Garanin (SOMK); Rtishchevsky district, S. Klyuchi, 29. V. 1993 (6 copies) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007); Saratov, 11. VI. 2005 (5 copies) (Sazhnev, Rodnev, 2005: "Lysogorsky massif"; Sazhnev, 2007); ibid.15.VI. 2005 (2 copies) (Sazhnev, 2007); Saratov, 5. VII. 2007 (1 female) A. S. Sazhnev; Saratov, 12. VII. 2007 (2 copies) N. V. Rodnev; Saratov, 11. V. 2007 (1 female, 1 male) A. S. Sazhnev; Saratov, 20. V.2007 (2 males, 2 females) A. S. Sazhnev; Saratov, 2. VII. 2007 (1 male) A. S. Sazhnev; Saratov, 5. VII. 2007 (1 female) A. S. Sazhnev; Saratov, 12. VII. 2007 (2 copies) N. V. Rodnev; Saratov, 3. VI. 2008 (1 male; 5 females) A. S. Sazhnev, N. V. Rodnev.
In the Saratov region, it is recorded only in the Right Bank: Saratovsky, Tatishchevsky, Rtishchevsky districts, but it is probably widespread everywhere: it has not been studied in the Trans-Volga region, but it is apparently absent on the border with Kazakhstan and in steppe and semi-desert zones. Every year it is common near Saratov (Lysogorsky massif, Kumysnaya Polyana).
It is noted in bayrachny, floodplain deciduous forests and plantings. In the conditions of the Volgograd region, it inhabits large gullies with massifs of bayrach forests of aspen, poplar, alder, and birch, usually occurring in damp, rocky places near streams and small rivers (E. V. Komarov).

Subgenus Limnocarabus Géhin, 1876
Type species: Carabus clathratus Linné, 1761

4. Carabus (Limnocarabus) clathratus ssp. clathratus Linné, 1761
Material: Krasnokutsky district, v sarae, 22. VI. 1988 (1 female) O. A. Garanin (SOMK); Balashovsky district, Nikolaevka village, deciduous forest, day, 20. V. 1989 (1 female) V. V. Anikin; Saratovsky district, Dubki village, state farm "Vesna", in teplitsa, 2. VII. 1997 (1 copy) I. V. Kryukov (probably brought together with peat from the Leningrad region) (Sazhnev, 2007); Saratov region, collection of SSAU, 2007 (1 copy).
In the literature (Kapranova et al., 2000), a species from the Dergachevsky and Fedorovsky districts is mentioned as a food element of the belladonna crane (Anthropoides virgo), however, a parallel reference is made to Carabus pannonicus L., a synonym of Carabus scheidleri ssp. scheidleri Panzer, 1799, which does not live in Russia, calls into question the accuracy of determining the species; in addition, the latter is listed under the Russian name as "Hungarian ground beetle" – and probably meant Carabus hungaricus scythus Motschulsky, 1847. The habitats of belladonna-steppe coenoses of the Saratov Trans-Volga region-also call into question the correctness of the determination of Carabus clathratus, known as a rather specialized hygrophilic species. Finally, the material was collected and reviewed fragmentally, since the study was performed on the feces of birds, not whole individuals, which also reduces the percentage of accuracy of the determination.
In the region, the species is widespread, apparently everywhere on the Right Bank and locally in the river valleys in the Trans-Volga region, so we leave the indications from the Dergachevsky and Fedorovsky districts as possible. Drive habitats, usually with dense vegetation. On clay or silted soil at the water's edge.

Subgenus Trachycarabus Géhin, 1885
Type species: Carabus scabriusculus Olivier, 1795

5. Carabus (Trachycarabus) estreicheri Fischer von Waldheim, 1822
= var. jaegeri Ménétriés, 1849

V. 2007 (3 females, 2 males) A. S. Sazhnev; ibid., 28.V.2007 (1 male) A. S. Sazhnev.
In the Saratov region, it is recorded only in the Saratov and Tatishchevsky districts. It is undoubtedly more widespread. Annually the dominant species in the vicinity of Saratov (Lysogorsky massif, Kumysnaya Polyana).
It is found in floodplain and bayrach forests, inhabits moist floodplain meadows and meadow grasses along the bottom of steppe gullies, and occurs under river sediments.

6. Carabus (Trachycarabus) sibiricus ssp. karelini Fischer von Waldheim, 1830
Material: Tatishchevsky district, village of Oktyabrsky gorodok (Sakharov, 1903-as Village of haeres Fisch., 1832); Saratov, in the park at the old cemetery, as Village of haeres, 6.VII.1986 (1 male) O. A. Garanin (SOMK); Saratov, sady, 19.V.1993 (1 copy) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007-as haeres Fisch., 1832); ibid., summer 1994 (1 copy) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007 – as haeres Fisch., 1832); Saratovsky district, Sinenkiye village, summer 1996 (1 copy) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007-as haeres Fisch., 1832). Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007 - as haeres Fisch., 1832); ibid. 10. IX. 2006 (2 copies) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007 - as haeres Fisch., 1832); ibid., 1. III. 1997 (2 copies) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007 - as haeres Fisch., 1832); Saratov, 10. V. 1998 (1 copy) A. S. Sazhnev (Sazhnev, Rodnev, 2005 - as haeres Fisch., 1832; Sazhnev, 2007 - as haeres Fisch., 1832); Saratovsky district, O. p. Burkin, 3.VI. 2006 (1 copy) N. V. Rodnev (Sazhnev, 2007-as haeres Fisch., 1832); Saratov, pos. Uvek, 27. VII. 2008 (1 copy) SSAU fees.
In the Saratov region, it is recorded only in the Saratov and Tatishchevsky districts. It is undoubtedly more widespread. Early indications ofCarabus sibiricus haeres Fischer von Waldheim, 1823 for the Saratov region (Sakharov, 1903; Sazhnev and Rodnev, 2005; Sazhnev, 2007) were rechecked, and it was established that all specimens belong to C. sibiricus karelini Fischer von Waldheim, 1830. Unverified are the specimens based on those indicated by N. L. Sakharov (1903) – in the list of coleoptera for the Saratov province, these specimens are listed as " C. haeres Fisch.", however, the place of finds is" Nikolaevsky Gorodok", now St. Petersburg. Oktyabrsky gorodok, Tatishchevsky district, allows you to assign instances to ssp with a high degree of confidence. karelini Fischer von Waldheim, 1830.
It is noted in broad-leaved and mixed forests. N. L. Sakharov (1903) indicates beetles "in gardens under dry grass and various garbage".

Subgenus Archicarabus Seidlitz, 1887
Type species: Carabus nemoralis O. F. Muller, 1764

[Carabus (Archicarabus) nemoralis O. F. Muller, 1764]
Material: ?Saratov region, without more precise instructions, collection of A. P. Kumakov, (COMK) (possibly collections not from the Saratov region).
There is one copy of Carabus nemoralis from the collection of A. P. Kumakov in the SOMK funds, but the label was written later with the note"? Saratov region", and it is impossible to say for sure whether this material was collected from the territory of the Saratov region or not, this species was also previously recorded by us (Sazhnev and Rodnev, 2005), but it is doubtful that the material was also lost, so new finds of the species are needed. C. nemoralis is recorded from the territory of the Middle Volga region in adjacent areas. with the Saratov region in the same regions (Isaev et al., 2004), so we leave the view as possible for the region.

Subgenus Tomocarabus Reitter, 1896
Type species: Carabus convexus Fabricius, 1775

7. Carabus (Tomocarabus) bessarabicus ssp. concretus Fischer von Waldheim, 1823
Material: Sarepta, Sarat province (A. Becker) - the modern territory of the Volgograd region; Saratov (B. Becker). Dixon, V. 1898); Dergachevsky district, vicinity of Dergachy, 30. VIII. 1994 (1 male, 1 female) V. V. Anikin; Saratovsky district, Sinenkiye village, in the steppe ravine, 1. III. 1997 (1 female) I. V. Kryukov; Saratov, on the road, 23. VI. 2006 (1 copy) I. A. Zabaluev; Saratov region (without more precise instructions), collections of SSAU, 2007 (1 copy).
In the Saratov region, the subspecies is listed in the regional Red Data Book (Anikin and Nagadina, 2006). Isolated finds are also known in Khvalynsky (near the town of Khvalynsk, Tsygany Dol district), Krasnoarmeysky (near the village of Bannovka), and Alexandrovo-Gaisky (Finaikina Balka district) districts. The species is confined to areas of virgin steppes (Anikin and Nagadina, 2006). It inhabits dry steppes, mainly in gullies. It is also found in agrocenoses and forest belts near gullies and virgin steppe and fallow areas.
Carabus (Tomocarabus) bessarabicus Fischer von Waldheim, 1823 is represented in Russia by 2 subspecies: the eastern ssp. concretus Fischer von Waldheim, 1823 and the western nominative ssp. bessarabicus Fischer von Waldheim, 1823, but its south-eastern range boundary is still not exactly known. According to B. Brezina (2004), ssp. concretus was described from Sarepta, is known from the Lower Volga, and is listed for the Caucasus and southern Western and Central Siberia. In O. L. Kryzhanovsky (1953), we find the following data on the distribution of the nominative subspecies: Ukraine, Crimea, the North Caucasus, the southern part of the Altai Territory, the Lower Volga Region, and northern and central Kazakhstan. For Saratov, O. L. Kryzhanovsky (1953) indicates only ssp. concretus, but according to the description, some specimens from the territory of the Saratov region resemble ssp. bessarabicus. In V. Lassele (2008), ssp. concretus is indicated for the Volga, and the nominative subspecies is indicated for Moldova, and Lassele also indicates the subspecies ssp. melambaphus Fischer, 1832 from Kyrgyzstan. The position of subspecies in the Lower Volga region was very unclear. E. V. Komarov and coauthors (Kalyuzhnaya et al., 2000; Komarov, 2005) indicated a nominative subspecies only for the Rostov and Volgograd regions (Kalachevsky district, right bank of the Don River), but for the Volgograd region, these specimens, according to Evgeny Vladimirovich, are considered to be the most common in Russia. they were determined with a degree of doubt, not completely understandable specimens were found and are still found in Shcherbakovskaya Gulch, 10 km from the Saratov region from the south along the Volga, and are also found directly on the territory of the region, on the Right Bank. Therefore, some authors considered it possible to find a nominative subspecies in the Saratov region (Anikin and Nagadina, 2006; Sazhnev, 2007).
"For subspecies, especially common on the plain, there must be integrand forms. In the case of Carabus bessarabicus, the only truly serious barriers separating the subspecies can only be the Don and the Volga. Taking into account the fact that in the west (Moldova, where the species is almost certainly extinct, and Ukraine) and in the east (Western Siberia) of the range live two extreme forms (typical subspecies C.bessarabicus and C. concretus, respectively), there is a wedge between them, along which there is a change in the characteristics, at least externally. To clarify these differences, it is necessary to carefully compare specimens from the Volgograd Region (on the right bank of the Volga) with those from Ukraine, Crimea, and the Rostov Region, on the one hand, and with those from Western Siberia, on the other. Perhaps some results will be obtained by comparing the internal sacks of the aedeagus. Anyway, on Cicindela (s. str.) these attributes work even at the subspecies level. The nominative subspecies can be found in the Rostov region in the regions bordering Ukraine. But the specimens from the Volgograd and Saratov regions (from the right bank of the Volga) may be transitional " - A.V. Matalin.
However, taking into account the recent works of B. Brezina (2004), B. Lassele (2008) and other authors, the range of the nominative subspecies covers Moldova, southern Ukraine, and the Crimea, and it is not possible in the Saratov region, although there are individuals that superficially resemble ssps. bessarabicus, they should be classified as ssp. concretus and transitional forms, topotypes, which should also be called "concretus".

8. Carabus (Tomocarabus) convexus ssp. convexus Fabricius, 1775
Material: Saratov region, without more precise indications, as Carabus niger, collection of A. P. Kumakov, (COMK); Pugachevsky district, Irgiz River, les, 14. X. 1989 (1 female) O. A. Garanin (COMK); Krasnopartizansky district, Irgiz river, as C. glabratus, VII. 1990 (1 copy) O. A. Garanin (SOMK); Krasnoarmeysky district, pos. Kamensky, leto, 1993 (6 copies) I. V. Kryukov (Sazhnev, 2007); Saratovsky district, O. P. 837 km, in litter, 8. V. 2005 (1 copy) N. V. Rodnev (Sazhnev, Rodnev, 2005-the article lists 3 copies, however this is the total number of collected individuals, taking into account the second date of collection; Sazhnev, 2007), ibid. 21. V. 2005 (2 copies) N. V. Rodnev (Sazhnev, 2007); Saratovsky district, JSC "Spring", IV. 2009 (1 copy) I. V. Kryukov; Saratov, Lysogorsky massif, 5. V. 2009 (2 copies) N. V. Rodnev.
In the Saratov region, it is recorded in the Saratovsky, Krasnoarmeysky, Krasnopartizansky, and Pugachevsky districts. It is undoubtedly more widespread, but it does not occur locally and everywhere, apparently not often. It is found in deciduous floodplain and bayrach forests, both broad-leaved and birch (Loskutova, 1997), on the edges, meadows, and less often in fields.

9. Carabus (Tomocarabus) marginalis Fabricius, 1794
In the Saratov region, it was observed only in the Right Bank – Khvalynsky, Volsky, Saratovsky, and Krasnoarmeysky districts. It is listed in the Red Data Book of the Saratov Region (Anikin and Sazhnev, 2006; Sazhnev and Rodnev, 2008).
It lives in steppe gullies with woody and shrubby vegetation, floodplain forests and woodlands. It is found, as a rule, under the crowns of woody and shrubby vegetation on the edges and clearings (E. V. Komarov).

Subgenus Pachystus Motschulsky, 1865
Type species: Carabus hungaricus Fabricius, 1792

10. Carabus (Pachystus) hungaricus ssp. scythus Motschulsky, 1847
Material: Saratov region (without exact instructions), collections of SSAU, 2007 (1 copy).
In the Saratov region, isolated finds are known in the Khvalynsky (near the town of Khvalynsk, Tsygany Dol district) and Krasnoarmeysky (near the village of Bannovka) districts (Gugadina and Anikin, 2006). The species inhabits steppe gullies and adjacent biotopes, including agrocenoses and forest belts. It is a characteristic inhabitant of virgin grass-grass and grass steppes. It is connected to large steppe gullies and adjacent steppe areas. During periods of maximum activity, beetles inhabit forest belts and fallow areas adjacent to gullies, but they are never recorded on cultivated land (E. V. Komarov).
Previously, many eastern populations of Carabus hungaricus scythus Motschulsky, 1847, were assigned to C. h. mingens Quensel, 1806; for example, ssp. mingens was mentioned in the Red Data Book of the USSR (1984) and later in the Red Data Book of the Saratov Region (1996) in the Saratov and Volgograd regions.
On the territory of Russia, the species is represented by 2 subspecies: ssp. mingens Quensel, 1806 and ssp. scythus Motschulsky, 1847, described from the Voronezh Region, and distributed in the steppe zone of southern Russia east to the Volga (Kryzhanovskij et al., 1995). Nominative ssp is also known from Europe. hungaricus Fabricius, 1792 and ssp. gastridulus Fischer von Waldheim, 1824, the position of the latter, however, remains questionable (Lassele, 2008).
N. L. Sakharov (1903), in particular, wrote: "there are two more species of ground beetles-Carabus schönherii and C. hungaricus mingens, but I am not sure that they are found in our area, so I do not put them in a row, although the first one is marked "in the river drift of 1896", the other "under the river drift of 1894", C. schoenherri Fischer von Waldheim, 1820, apparently, too northern a species, not reaching the Saratov region, and the reference to C. hungaricus mingens should be attributed to C. hungaricus scythus. In the Saratov region, all examined specimens of C. hungaricus have clear and large pits on the elytra and clearly belong to scythus. E. V. Komarov et al. (Kalyuzhnaya et al., 2000; Komarov, 2005) for the Volgograd region, also indicate only ssp.scythus, including Kalmykia, where it was previously assumed that ssp is widespread.mingens (CC USSR, 1984), but for the Rostov region since 1972 (Rare..., 2008) methodically indicate only ssp. mingens, from modern publications ssp. mingens is indicated for the Lipetsk region (Tsurikov, 2008), but apparently, according to the old work of K. V. Skufyin (1968), so it is not entirely clear where the zone of intergradation of subspecies passes, probably somewhere along the Don. It turns out that ssp. mingens in European Russia reaches the Rostov region and further south, through Krasnodar and the Ciscaucasia goes to the Caucasus, but according to other data, this subspecies in Russia lives only in the Caucasus (Lassele, 2008). V. Lassele (2008) has the following data: ssp. mingens-Caucasus, Dagestan, Crimea, apparently, is the most reliable data, including Stavropol, although some authors from the territory of Crimea distinguish a separate subspecies of ssp. gastridulus Fischer von Waldheim, 1824; ssp. cribellatus Adams, 1812 – Russia, the Urals, Central Asia, and in V. Lassele, as in Brezina (2004), cribellatus is a subspecies, and "scythus" goes as n. scythus Motschulsky, 1847 subspecies ssp. cribellatus. Given the totality of modern data, we can say that up to the Saratov region, and, consequently, the Lipetsk ssp. mingens does not reach, and all northern populations relative to, at least, the Rostov region, where, most likely, ssp. scythus is also noted, should be attributed to the northern subspecies.
The situation with C. cribellatus remains open, as the intraspecific taxonomy is poorly developed, and the species probably has many more subspecies than is currently accepted. In addition, the status of C. cribellatus is not generally accepted. Of course, it is debatable whether or not cribellatus should be singled out as a separate species, but in most Russian publications, it is just such a separate species, and given the distribution area, the question arises how close it can approach the border of the Saratov region from the Urals, and whether it is possible in the east of the region. According to A. M. Shapovalov, in the Orenburg region, all populations of Pachystus are represented by one taxon, and it should be called "cribellatus". However, the lower legs of all Orenburg individuals are black, whereas in typical C. cribellatus they are red, but, according to K. V. Makarov, C. cribellatus always has a well-defined microsculpture of the elytra, and C. cribellatus always has a well-defined microsculpture of the elytra. hungaricus is not present, and the species also differ in the shape of pits, which is observed in Orenburg specimens. On the other hand, the IPSU collections do not contain large series of these species, and it cannot be ruled out that new material from the range boundary will not introduce new details.
As for the distribution of C. cribellatus in the Orenburg region, according to A. M. Shapovalov, the species is distributed from the eastern borders of the region to the western ones, and the westernmost collection point is the Talovskaya steppe, on the border with the Saratov region, which makes it possible to find the species on the territory of the Saratov region. Both species, C. hungaricus and C. cribellatus, are also indicated for the Samara region, but doubts still remain, for example, M. L. Danilevsky refers all specimens of A. S. Tilly collected from the Bolshaya-Chernihiv region at several points adjacent to the Saratov and Orenburg regions to the ssp. scythus population. Thus, we still believe that C. cribellatus is possible for the Saratov region, and most likely in the north-east of the region, but the question of the number of taxa remains.

[Carabus (Pachystus) hungaricus ssp. cribellatus Adams, 1812]
Subspecies is possible in the north-east and east of the region. Since we accept the intrageneric classification of B. Brezina (2004) and B. Lassele (2008), we consider the status of the taxon as a subspecies of Carabus hungaricus, but this issue is not closed.

In the Saratov region, the species is recorded in the Saratovsky, Voskresensky, Tatishchevsky, and Rtishchevsky districts. It is distributed, apparently, along the entire Right Bank, going along the Volga River to the territory of the Trans-Volga region.
A view forms a number of subspecies and forms. It inhabits floodplain and bayrach forests. In some places it is common when collecting in soil traps. Prefers places with moderate humidity, often found under rocks, logs, in forest ditches.

Carabus (Oreocarabus) glabratus ssp. glabratus Paykull, 1790
According to recent data belongs to the subgenus Pachystus shuffle.gif

Thank you, but what is the article? I think if you shake up all the subgenera and subspecies, then it's every week to change the lists ))

Confuses in the direction of stscheglowi, as I understand it, the pronotum would be from above, but judging by the posterior corners, it is very, very arvensis - in goldfinches they are more developed and bent with blades. I remember so Obydov defined on Zina?

And we'll add the second one ... I have it in the general reports on the genus taken into account by the way

It was determined by Obydov, but given that instead of "Saratov region" they wrote "Samara region" and the poor quality of the photo, one can only guess how he was able to so clearly determine such a difficult view)))

Let's send it to him personally

D. V.'s answer:

"Good afternoon, Alexey!

Yes, the photo is of poor quality, but the beetle on it still looks more like C.
arvensis basskiricus. But based on this photo, I wouldn't make any changes.
arvensis basskiricus is included in the list of ground beetles of the Saratov region. We need more
reliable copies from the Saratov region. Although I think that C. arvensis
basskiricus is present in the Saratov region.

Sincerely, D. Obydov"

So I'm not in a hurry to publish )))

11.03.2010 18:35, Mantispid

Well, he's right - we need new finds!

11.03.2010 19:54, Алексей Сажнев

Undoubtedly, and so it will be necessary to correct the subspecies sibiricus, introduce hortensis and new finds of marginalis and others, and confirm arvensis ... and the preliminary list is far from perfect ))

Hello! My question is a bit off-topic, but I do not know where else to ask about it. I live in the Volgograd region, to be more precise - in the city of Volgograd. Judging by the information on the Internet, we should have many species of ground beetles of the tribe Carabini. I have been stubbornly looking for them in the vicinity of Volgograd for more than 2 years, but despite all my efforts, during this time I found only 1 beauty (and not somewhere, but in the very center of the city, and quite accidentally), he was crushed on the road. I'm in a stupor. Can you tell me where to look for them?

Here lots of ground beetles from your area. I recommend reading it.

Nothing surprising. Karabuses are so simple, looking here and there, and not to be found. Have you heard anything about soil traps, cups with bait (vinegar, beer, all sorts of brew)? Read the following links:
