Hello everyone.

I spent the whole summer hunting the two butterflies listed above, and a couple of days ago I saw a mourning bird (near the pond). I saw it 3 times a day (I don't know if it's the same one), but I couldn't catch it. It doesn't appear anymore. Can you tell me where to look for it?

Also very interested in where to find a swallowtail.

It turned out that we have a lot of swallowtails here. I've seen it 20 times all day

Yes, wherever they are not. Mourning fish caught on the shore of Lake Malsky (Izborsko-Malskaya valley), but not at the village. Small, and then where the forest descends to the shore. Swallowtail caught once in the military cemetery in the mountains. Velikiye Luki... It is better to look for a mourner where there are birch trees. Swallowtail can be found almost anywhere. The population varies greatly by year and point, but both species are widespread.

The valley is nearby, maybe I'll look there. Just today I was walking in a birch grove, but I didn't see the mourning girls.
And this year's swallowtails are a dime a dozen! And how huge! I will catch seriy

Both the swallowtail and the mourner met in the vicinity of Lake Dniko (you can find it on the map at the link)

By the way, is Pyrgus alveus rare in the region?

And what should it be in our region? Oreal-that Siberia, Mongolia.

I don't want to go this far yet, so I'll try to catch a mourner for a sweet brew.
By the way, what is the ratio of honey/water, and what can be replaced with yeast can you tell me?

What alveus you have is for sure. wink.gif In extreme cases, serratulae. Which is even rarer. wink.gif

Well, let's see... We catch almost everything, if only different.

Eh!!1 What I just did not catch interesting things, but there are no mourners and that's it. Apparently you'll have to look for it.

For some reason, there are really very few mourning sites in Pskov region this year compared to the previous year. I observed it only a couple of times at the end of July in the Pustoshkinsky district in damp places near bridges. But swallowtails, especially the second generation, are very numerous-they fly everywhere.

Another thing is not once met in Pskov from the nymphalids Polychromatic, Nymphalis vaualbum, Nymphalis xanthomelas

A few years ago I saw a swallowtail in the Ostrovsky district on the road between Spiri and Vladimirets. In my early childhood, I met in the vicinity of der. Astratovo of the Vorontsovskaya volost of the same district. Mourning girls used to come across regularly, this year I didn't see them.

About polychromatic flowers - again, memories of a distant childhood... Some kind of "enlarged urticaria" occasionally came across right in the middle of the same Astratov - and it was polychloros or xanthomelas-who knows him now. In general, a lot of things have changed. Previously, for example, Arctia caja was a mass species there - I haven't seen it for many years. However, before I could afford to sit in the village all the holidays smile.gif- and now you break out for a piece of vacation-and that's it...

Swallowtail in the field north of Ramenskoye (M. O.) at the end of July this year was observed in abundance (caught 15 pieces), last year the same number. I didn't take the flown copies. I don't remember this before, I probably didn't find the right biotope.
I haven't seen mourning girls since 2002. In the 80-90 years, it was quite common, especially a few days in mid-July, immediately after hatching.
This year and last year I specifically wandered along the birch forest in Mytishchi behind the Auchan store-not a single one.
Polychrome flowers (xantomelas) were observed in wild numbers at the beginning of July 2005. Nymphalis vaualbum was caught on the Kratovo-Khripan road (Ramenskiy district, Moscow region)
in the late 80's together with taurines. I've seen it twice in the last 20 years.
