I came across a hornet's nest in the woods today.

Oh, this is a very good nest in terms of being able to get it out and explore it later. Much more often this is impossible without a saw.

I saw a hornet's nest for the first time. It is amazing that such a grandiose structure is used only for one season.

I also took a picture of a hornet's nest today, but apparently there are already three cripples left, foraging is going on at the rate of one wasp per half hour, there are no guards at the entrance.

And at the end of August, there was such activity there that it was scary to pass by:

Today, for the first time in my life, I found a Polistes dominula nest with a bunch of females wintering directly on it:

They usually spend the winter away from their nests.

I'm sick of these nests! The dacha is built every season. Neighbor cleans up)))

I met Polista today https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/118633602. Is it Polistes dominula?
In St. Petersburg, this is the third observation of the inaturalist search. I met the previous two at the same time last year in the same place. So far, these are the northernmost polist observations on the inaturalist.
