Good afternoon! On the territory of Ukraine, especially in the center, in the Kiev region, several species of bark beetles began to massively destroy pine forests. Pine trees are dying for 20-30 years, as well as age-old giants. The tree begins to turn yellow, loses its needles, and dies in 5-6 months. When the bark begins to lag behind, you can see the winding passages that ring the trunks, interrupting the integrity of the plant's pathways. The bark beetle is unusual, some kind of imported, new. They fight it by cutting down and disposing of affected trees, but this does not stop it. Pine trees in park and forest areas are particularly affected. I heard in the news that in Kharkiv they started breeding Thanasimus formicarius, Common anteater , aka bark wolf.
It was reported in the news that both the adult individual and the larvae of this beetle feed on bark beetles. And that they are bred in Kharkiv and try to release them in the forests. But so far, this action has not reached us. I want to find out where I can buy this beetle, preferably an imago, in order to release it in the area of my residence. It is very sad to see how one after another 25-meter-old century-old pines are dying.
