Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • The length of the forewings is from 3 to 3.5 cm. Forewings: light grey-brown, with black transverse lines and a large and clear W-shaped spot, which is formed by the outer transverse stripe and serves as a distinctive feature of the species. The wavy line is light and indistinct. The reniform spot is brown, with a double border. The hindwings are red, with a black median band and a black edge, and the indicated band does not reach the inner edge, but in the middle it narrows and bends at a right angle.   • Butterflies are active at night. Meeting places-banks and floodplains of rivers and streams with dense vegetation, water meadows, wet gardens and parks — are wetter biotopes compared to the red ribbon(Catocala nupta). [85].
