  • The largest of our tapeworms and one of the largest European scoops — the length of the front wing can reach 4.5 cm, and the wingspan is 110 mm (range-from 85 to 110 mm). The forewings are "bluish-light grey with black dusting" and light to white transverse lines surrounded by a border. The reniform spot is light, with a dark border, and under it is a light or even white spot of irregular shape. The hindwings are black or dark brown, with a blue (and not toothed, but semicircular) band and white fringe. [85].

General info about Imago

  • It flies along the edges of forests (deciduous-mixed), along the banks of rivers. It is found in gardens and parks. In the mountains it rises to the border of deciduous forests. The butterfly is active at night, flying towards the light, but, like C. sponsa, it lands near the light source, not on it. [85].
