Imago Habitus and Differences from alike species

  • On the front wings, the inner band runs at an acute angle (no more than 60 ) to the rear edge of the wings. On the forewings, the marginal dark line at the costal margin has a right-angled break about 5 mm long. From the costal edge deep into the median field stretches the clarification, which has b. m. parallel edges. There is a basal stroke at the base of the wings. Yellow spot at the apex of the hindwings not wider than 2 mm [204].

General info about Imago

  • Catocala Schr. Whiskers are filiform, with sparse, weak setae. The palps are directed upwards, the 2nd segment is covered with scales, the 3rd is blunt, short, and the proboscis is well developed. Anterior tibia without spines, middle and hind legs with spines, the number and location of spines often varies even within the species. The forewings are broad, usually modestly colored, with the usual pattern structure for scoops, on the hind wings there is usually a pattern of wide bandages (dark alternate with yellow or red, or blue, or white), sometimes they are yellow or black with white spots or modestly colored. There are about 240 species in the genus (Holarctic, partly Oriental region), and more than 120 species in the Palearctic. There are 34 species in the Russian Far East. [204].

Imago lifespan
